My speedo cable, square key (at the secondary shaft) broke a year ago or so. I replaced it but it only lasted for a half day and broke again. Problem was actually the metered gear housing (90 deg gear box at the end) was worn and locking up causing the key to shear. I bought a new gear housing but the problem is that the square slot that the key goes into on the secondary shaft appears to be "rounded" and the key just rotates now. I can't tell if it is a button that is screwed into the end of the secondary or if it is machined in. Has anyone had this problem before? Recommended fix?

Some sleds have a plastic insert in the shaft, I do not know if yours does. A look at a parts breakdown veiw should tell you. If there is not an insert, there may be a piece of the old key stuck inside. About half of the key should enter the axle. You may have to drill the old key out. Be careful as a small bit can be easily broken off inside when drilling.

fin, sometimes, there is a very small piece of the key left in the end of the drive shaft itself causing the issue you explain. try to verify it is ALL out. in extreme cases, if it cant be pulled out of the shaft you can drive it into the shaft as the end is hollow. remember this is just for small pieces left in the shaft. get a new key and compare it to the two older keys you have to see how much is left in the shaft. i had to pull the drive shaft and cut out the speedo key holder in the shaft, then install a new holder in the shaft one time. wasnt fun at all. ski
