I have a 2002 SRX and sometimes when I start it, there is no headlight and the dash gauges don't work. I can take of and start riding, and sometimes it'll come on. Then other times, I have to shut it off and re-start it to get it to work. Anyone else had this kind of goofy thing happen on their SRX??

I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON MY 1998 srx 700. It was the wiring harness under the motor.. It had rubbed through and was shorting out on other wires such as the tach, gauge pod light, and headlight. First i would check your wires, then IF NOT could be other electrically components such as voltage regualtor? hope this helps,

sure sounds like the harness to me as well. It normally rubs through under the motor.

its your relays
your load control and headlight relay are damp, they freeze and are slow to open, take them off and let them sit on the heat reister at home to let all the moisture out of them.The load control and headlight relay are on the pto side of the sled, you have to remove the screws holding the dash panel and they are above the cdi, they are white and blue little box's. The 02 srx has a special wiring harness guard and they dont have the problems of the 98-01 srx does.

But mine is a 2002? Mine has a special wiring harness of cover or something? Is that what you are saying? So the problem shouldn't be the same as a 98-01?

No,my 02 did it too.I never worried about it because mine always started working fine as soon as my sled warmed up.There was an service update for the 01 srx i know because i took my 01 into the dealer and they replaced the wiring harness that runs under the motor.I think the 02 didnt have a problem with the wiring harness,just the sticking relays.

Mine does the same thing i dont worry about as it comes on after a few minutes, usually whe im riding around warming it up and gettign everythign rolling again. My neighbors 02 viper did the same thing as well last year after riding in fresh powder and it was pretty dang cold. They came back on within a little bit.
i have the same problem on very cold nights thanks guys now i know how to fix it

its not a wiring problem, its simply that the relays are damp, take them off and place them on a heat register in your house for a night or 2, it will solve the problem. Like I said in my previous post the 02's dont scrub the harness like the 98-01 did, they come with a protector installed and are anchored down alot more.
