New Yamaha Snow cross sled

A new snow cross sled, or the vectors that were made sno-cross sleds last year and raced overseas?

I don't know or have any specific information but the Mod class is now limited to 600cc which the new 4 strokes are allowed in. :WayCool: So, it only makes sense they will be out there gathering race test data.

I don't have a Yamaha sled YET but I am dyiing to see Yamaha return to competition. ;)!

The Vector has been raced in sno-x both in Europe and Japan. 4-strokes are legal in the 600 mod class, but they can only be triples.
Seeing you cant run any kind of forced induction (no turbo or s/c), Im not sure if the Vector or Nytro would be competitive in a 600 mod class. Id like to see it happen though.

I have still been hearing rumors of a two cylinder, 4 stroke 850cc, FI engine based off the single 450 dirt bike motor that is in a skid around 470 lbs. for this type of racing/riding somewhere in the 130 HP area. I hope this one comes true.

Im guessing that if that engine came to be that it would be turbocharged. The YFZ 450 is only about 40 hp, so two of those put together are only going to get about 80 hp.
Im not convinced that a twin would be any lighter than a triple or a 4-banger. Look at the Polaris FST Switchback, its got a 750cc turbocharged twin and it weighs 600 pounds. Thats no lighter than an '03 RX-1 was.
I think it will be interesting to see what comes out for '07.

But its not going to be two 450's hooked together so who knows where you got your numbers from. You never know what kind of hp it will bring. Also it said it was based off the YZF 450 which makes more power than the YFZ 450. There is also way more to be had out of that engine on the yfz if they didnt have to tune it down to sell it without people going out and killing themselves it would have more than 38 hp :D:DP

doesn't happen often, but I side with the captain. long stroke motor's aren't made for sled applications man, make lots of power down low where it's not needed, and are anemic up top where a sled needs it's power.

Anybody Remember The Tdm 850 Motorcycle From Years Ago? No Running Boards Just Foot Pegs ! No Tunnel Either, Fuel Injected, light, Feb 12 Will Reveal The Best Thing To Hit The Snow In Years.

It's pretty simple really. This is just my thoughts here or opinion....whatever.

Yamaha is very passionate about this 4 stroke thing. I think when it comes to budget, no other manufacturer can touch them. In other words, if Yamaha WANTS to get in racing Sno-X again they will do it, they CAN do it, and their sleds will be as trick as THEY want them to be. I think it's kinda dumb for others to bet against it. If Yamaha wants to put the 4 strokes on the top of the Sno-X world, my opinion is they will, whenever and however they want. I've been saying this for the last 2 years. Things are falling in place. ISR has changed the Mod class to 600's this season. Rumors are 440's are gonna disappear now altogether. Might be 600 stock and 600 mod from the BS rumors I've been hearing. Yamaha can get in those classes.

Motocross has gone 4 stroke, Supercross will too....so will Snow Cross. Yamaha is the king of 4 stroke right now. I'd not bet against them to win, show or place with a 4 stroke race sled next year. It's going to start this season with Davidson in USCC. I'm betting he's gonna win it all this year and the naysayers get a hefty serving of crow. "it can't win races, it's too heavy, can't take the beating, blah blah blah".... LOL, you just watch. Yamaha does it right or they don't bother with it. As much as I hate to see 4 strokes taking over, it's already happened in MX....it will happen here too. Fuggin' freight train and you can't stop it.

Wouldn't it be nice if they would change the classes? Maybe instead of "cc" to use horsepower or another classifying factor?

Supertrax had a little blurb on the rumor this month - 1000cc Vector-based, lots of titanium. Yamaha is reportedly going to race sno-x open class in Japan with it this year. I guess they're waiting to find out if the ISR will allow 1000cc 4-strokes in the 600cc stock class before hitting North America.
