So, whats the deal with Yamaha's race colors. Most people here in North America think that Yamaha's color is blue, but in Japan a lot of their race bikes are red (the Japanese sno-x Vector was white and red).
Also, when you get Yamaha parts that come from Japan, the bag that they come in often has the Yamaha logo in red, but when they come from somewhere in North America the logo is blue.
So, whats the deal with that?
 
Good Question. Their 50th anniversary colors are black, white and yellow which I believe are retro, but as far as different colors per country someone out there definately knows. I've also heard there was a red srx available in Canada only, but have never seen one.

Maybe it is just a country thing - Japan's flag is a red on white so maybe that has something to do with it - the biggest portion of the American flag is blue - I'm just grabbing at straws!
 
yamaha's colours where originally red-white and black, then different teams have run different colours and been adopted as "factory" colours. a good example of that was Kenny Roberts' 500gp team running the yellow and black, that was adopted as the 50th aniversary colours.

And yes, the tuning forks are always shipped in red, or grey with a red background. the blue and white seems to be a trend that passed over, I think it was just the colours that gauloises sponsored the GP team under and then the production bikes got painted to match, but I'm not 100% on that.
 
It just seems kind of weird because Yamaha's factory Moto GP team used red and the '98, '99 SXs were red (they they went blue), but I recall Yamaha's MX bikes being blue.
However, a friend of mine is restoring a Yamaha dirtbike that was made in the '70s and its yellow.
Perhaps I will have to send an e-mail to Yamaha Motor Japan and see what they say.

In Canada, Up till 1982, Yz's were yellow. they then went to white. IT's were blue. Sometime in the mid 90s YZ and Yzf fourstroke mx went to blue. Oh, only 97 and 98sx sleds were red, blue in 99.

the marlboro ones where, but there was also the tech3 team, and the redbull WCM team, which was actually the most competative team in that timeframe
 
i have seen one of those red srx's you speak of and i beleive it was a 98,i dont know if this was custom or not but none the less it look quite cool to me because i like heat red personally.....

I heard that in 98 or something that they got a different owner and he liked the blue more than the red so he started producing more sleds in blue.
 
Yup. My father has a '79 Polaris TXL Indy thats blue. I can also remember the '80 Centurion 500 triple being blue as well (now that was a sweet triple).
Honestly, red, blue, black; whatever. As long as its got the tuning fork on it, its all good as far as I am concerned!
