I'm putting a new track on my VMax 600 twin soon... and was told to pick up a bearing for the speedo/clutch side. My speedo currently doesn't work (last trip out last season it quit) so we're thinking "replace it while it's apart."

I remember reading here that the Yamaha part is nothing more than a Timken bearing that can be gotten cheaper from some one other than the dealer. I have a Timken bearing source thru work and can get them quite cheap. BUT, I need the part number for the bearing... can anyone help me out on this so I can have it on hand when we disassemble my sled??

get the bearing and the speedo pin that goes from the cable to the shaft.
For the price of these parts change them while you have it apart.

That's the plan. BUT, I need the part number for the bearing so I can get it from my contact instead of the dealer (save me some gas $$ for the season!)

Just talked to the dealer. $45 Part number is 93306-272060000

Which really does me no good as I can't cross this part number with Timken. Dang.

On the 700cc models the dimensions on the Yamaha original bearing is:

Dia. Outer: 52mm
Dia. inner: 25mm
Total width: 27mm including sleeve with 2 set screws.
(Sleeve length:12mm + ball bearing part length:15mm =27mm)

On the Yamaha bearing I can read: NSK UB205 JAPAN.
However, the part no. for my bearing is 93306-20589 and that is not the same as yours, so I suppose you have to measure it and compare.
If the dimensions equals, your Timken dealer should be able to cross reference the NSK number to a Timken number or some other manufacturer.

Good luck !

Found the part at a different dealer for $31. I think I will just go there at lunch tomorrow (it's only 10 minutes from my office) and pick it up (they have it in stock, the other dealer would have to order it).

There is no "true" aftermarket bearing that matches the dealer supplied NSK205 bearing. I've called all over and only found one place that can come close. It's a Fafner bearing (on the same level of quality as NSK) with a collar length of 28.2 mm, which is 1.2 mm longer than the NSK bearing. This will make no difference to the sled, so I asked him to get me a couple (hey, I can pass the savings on to my friends here at TY!). He called me yesterday to let me know that the Fafner bearing is backordered... he can get me some on Dec. 28th. Not good enough!! So, at least I have the dealer supplied NSK bearing.

If any of you need this bearing, the cheapest place I found them was at Quality Service Plus (a cat and yammy dealer in Holland, MI) for ~$33 out the door. 616-399-8444
