This head gasket mod. requires premium fuel. Enjoy your new found power. A single or double layer can be used on 600/700sx/vmax with single pipe. A double layer is recommended on triple piped sx/vmax.

remove the middle layer of the gasket and put the 2 other pieces back on the machine.

yes drill out the rivets on the gaskets, pull out the center metal layer as yamyrider said, coat the remaining surfaces with copper gasket spray, and put it back together with the two gasket layers. Make sure you pay attention to which side is "up".
Be very careful when drilling out the rivits. I almost ruined mine while doing this mod. The entire gasket assembly will twist on you. Try to make sure it is secured very well and you'll have no problems.

k thanks will skip one layer then..ds dont have the up marketing..is there a waterproof way to se wich i is up on the 2 layers?

there is an "up" on i think one of the layers. the other one you just have to match up with that layer OR think of it as the cupped side facing the piston.

by the way, I'm thinking of doing this to my sled with AAEN's on it (600sx) why do you have to dril out the rivets? could you just cut the little "ears" off where the rivet sits? Just asking because I have not opened up the motor yet. I would almost think this would be safer to do because you wouldn't have to worry about twisting the gasket if the drill bit get's caught and wants to start twisting things. This may be a dumb question as I have not yet taken a look... but just for a heads up.

you want to remove the middle layer and put the two outer layers back on the machine. You need to spray both sides of the of the seal with gasket in a can then re-install. it is very easy to do.

I am aware of the procedure of doing it i think you may have just misunderstood my question... unless you were responding to the original poster (i kind of dug this one up from about a month back. What I was asking was instead of drilling out the rivets, could you just take an exacto knife and cut off the little extended part of the gasket that contains the rivet instead of using a drill. I am just a little bit leary of having the drill bit get in a jam and twisting up the gasket.

if you cut it out like you are saying the gasket may not seal properly on the head and may leak. The entire middle layer has to come out and the only way is to drill the rivets. I have done this about 6 times now.

Yep you did. I guess I shouldn't take the chance trying it anyway, I just thought it may save me a little hassle if the drill ever wanted to twist things on me... guess I will just be careful. Thanks for the help.
Since the portion of the gasket with the rivet is not sealing anything (it protrudes beyond the jug and head mating surface) I can't think of any logical reason that area could not be trimed or removed. The studs that hold the cylinder head on are going to align the gasket properly so you would just have to watch and make sure the mating surfaces went back in the right direction and orientation. If you are worried about damage from the drill this may be a viable alternative......
