I`ve always found the stock black instruments boring so I was wondering if anyone here has tried to modify them?. Replacing them with new white ones for example. (not the whole instrument cluster but only the "colored disc`s (rpm, speed, temperature and tank).

I had black instruments in my car (Volkswagen Golf 2 GTI 16V ) and I got new white disc`s for it, looks much better and R - ish.

What do you think?. Could turn out very cool:).

I have blue LED bulbs in mine that looks like the VW dash.. The faceplates themselves you have to make, but the bigger problem is taking them apart to install. Been done by a fella on the board.

Ok thanks for the info MonctonR1.

I guess the bulbs are the "glass" type of bulbs?. Like, there is no iron on the bulb, only glass?.

Aren`t the instrument house`s take-apart-able ?.

Maxximum performance has some white backgrounds for viper speedometers, but I don't think they have for your model. However, I saw a guy here that made his own red (!) background. I've also seen a srx with another bulb that lights up the gauges, very cool.

Aha interesting ! :). So it is do-able.

I think it`s wierd that no companies has started producing backgrounds for sled speedos. I always think that if I scan the old ones and then change the colors etc. and then print them out, the size wount be 100% right, but who knows, maybe it will.. .

Does the bulbs sit behind the background?. (I guess so). This means that a white background with black letters can be difficult might not work so well.. .

Hmm

fellas, its mine that have the gauges changed. Its on SRX gauge,a nd the color is orange. It is a pain in the a*s to get them apart. Takes alto of heating, and prying, once you get the glue snapped loose in 1 place, then you can work your way around the gauge very easily, untill the face is free, then just scan the face and go to work in photoshop. I just used card stock, and covered it with a thin piece of plastic, shoudl be all good now!

and as far as light transfer, they look fine at night. I will take a picture of them for you guys next time i am at the parent house. And size is also 100% correct. They will be the same size as the scan. Will get pics of them in the night next time i am out to the rents house!
