I have an 02 Viper that I am looking to change the shims that go between the spider and fixed sheave to make the engagement smoother. The last sled I did this to was a 1999 500SX and it made the engagement so smooth. The mechanic at the yamaha shop who ordered the shims is no longer working there and nobody else there seems to know what I am talking about. I am just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction?

Are you talking about the "Slider Shoes" That are attached to the ends of the arms of the spider? There are 2 on the end of each spider arm, which makes a total of 6 in the primary clutch. They are Yamaha part #8BW-17653-00-00 (about $4.69/each). Might want to also check out the "ramp shoes" in the secondary clutch as well. They look like small black ramps and are wearable items. The are located directly under the helix, the helix (cam) slides along the ramp shoes. They are Yamaha part #8AV-17688-10-00($11.48/each) There are 3 of them in the secondary clutch. Yamaha svc manual reccomends changing them if they are worn or grooved. Hope this info helps

ill try and find a part#. you are looking for the shims to reduce belt to sheave clearance, correct?

Called split collars
they are called split collars and you can either open up the belt clearance(neutral) or decrease it by changing the thickness of them, they go on the end of the stationary sheave in a groove and the shaft of the spider holds them into the sheave groove. Hate to say it but hauck has all differnt sizes of them.

Hauck was the only one who made those different size split collars, if you want to tighten the clearance get narrower ones, but reall does your Viper engage hard, if the belt deflection is set correctly???

The engagement is not bad I am just looking for any advantage that is possible in deep powder situations. Thanks for the info about purchasing the split collars from hauck. I will try them. thanks
