I don't condone reckless driving, but I wish the AWSC would leave us alone!
Call or e-mail the legislators and/or AWSC & DNR and tell them to abort this bill!!

Here's the letter form AWSC;

We are asking each of you to contact your State Representative and State Senator and recommend they co-sponsor LRB-3699, a measure which will create a dusk-to-dawn 55-mile per hour speed limit for snowmobiles and will appropriate $32,700 of general purpose revenue spending for warden spot enforcement teams (SET)

LRB-3699 is being offered by State Rep. Dean Kaufert (R-Neenah) and State Senator Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) at the request of the AWSC in cooperation with the Dept. of Natural Resources. This bill will be instrumental in our ongoing efforts to curb fatalities related to snowmobile operation.

Please contact you legislators immediately and ask them to co-sponsor LRB-3699 offered by Representative Kaufert and Senator Fitzgerald. For your information, the toll free legislative hotline number is 1-800-362-9472.

If you have further questions, Please contact Scott Makowski, AWSC President, or Morris Nelson, AWSC legislative chair at (262) 252-3496

Sometimes you have to protect people from "THEMSELVES". The NORTHWOODS bar owners need to CUT OFF the DRUNKEN sledhead WEEKEND WARRIOR when they have had too much to drink. I've watched it go on for the 5 DECADES i've been involved in the sport. They tried this in HURLEY a few seasons ago,( speed limit) it got ugly, and cost the area big $$$$$$$ when the word got out about what was going on. It turned into a money grab by the TREE POLICE. Their policy was "what would you rather have, a DUI ticket or a SPEEDING ticket. We ALL know the anwser.

SPEED isn't the problem at night, its the %&^(^&&%$*% drunk a$$ that can keep their sled on the trail and out of the way of others. If people were responsible and could keep their BAC under 10% alcohol there would be A LOT less fatalities. Speed limit, that is ridiculous, look how well it worked a few years ago.

Speed limit doesn't mean anything, even in MN where there are 55 mph limits, its just a reveune generator for the state. People will still get drunk, and hop on thier 200hp 600 pound rockets and kill themsleves. I hope Wi doesn't go to this!

I don't like the idea of limits either BUT this is what the Snowmobile Clubs are supporting because if not a night time speed limit of 55mph the legislature was recommending alternatives that were MORE restrictive. Possiblly day time limits. Two ways to get involved here guys join a club or just complain to the legislature. Lets face it anything over 55 at night and you are starting to over drive your lights anyway.
Just a note on this new regulation it does apply everywhere not just on the marked trails. They are trying to cut down on the number of high speed accidents that have happened on the lakes and rivers over the last couple of years.

This has got to be about the stupidest law, during the day you can not see around blind corners, and you have no idea a sled is coming up. I can't tell you how many times, during the day, some idiot has almost hit me ridding in the wrong lane! I can't remember this ever happening at night! They know your coming and slow down, cause they see your headlight. As far as out running you headlight, I can do 90 mph on the rail grade and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I have no problem with increased checks for DUI's, I'd like to see more of the meatheads who drive drunk off the trails, but don't impose extra rules on everybody because of the drinking problem. $32,000 is a joke, they will make way more than that on the speeding tickets. Once again IT'S ALL ABOUT THE REVENUE GENERATED!!!!!!! Do the math @ $150 a ticket, thats only 213 tickets, I think if they enforce the law they can get that many in a couple of weeks.M2C

Right on man - I agree 110% ;)!

Don't get me wrong I don't condone breaking the law, but if they want to ticket me, there gonna have to catch me!!!!!!!!!!!! There gonna need to sell those indy 500's, and get some helicopters!!!!!!!! At minimum some yamahas, and a case of whoopass. In the past my experience with the DNR has been so unbelieveable, it's just that UNBELIEVEABLE!
Just a quick note, they stopped me at an intersection, did said breath test, I had not had a drink for days, claimed the tester was broken, Tried to pin me with a DUI just cause I couldn't say my ABC's backwards!!! Ruined 1/2 day of my trip.
Also they almost killed my friend by driving around on the snowmobile trail, in a truck, at night, with the lights off. They said WE needed to be more careful, and we were lucky they were not going to give him a ticket!!!!!!
I think the state gets these guys staight outa clown school, then hands'em a gun. You do what you want, but I no longer stop for these meatheads.

Go catch some real criminals

It's not just a revenue generator - it's a way for the Fishcops to cover their butts. When the number of accidents and/or fatalities goes up, then the state authorities question Fish & Game as to what they are doing to prevent accidents. If F&G has issued hundreds or thousands of speeding citations, they can point to that as evidence that they are taking action to prevent accidents. Here in NH there is a 45 MPH speed limit on all trails. My biggest beef is that most of the time when Fish & Game is out with radar guns they do it on the long straight stretches where it is totally safe to open it up. They never camp out in the tight sections where there are too many yahoos riding way out of control.
