local dealer has a new 01 600 sx advertised in the paper. I'm looking for a good sled for my girlfriend to ride. Being from Idaho, I've never been around any of these shorttrack sx's. I know that the 600 tripple in a mtn max was a very good sled so I know the 600 sx motor is great. How does it handle on the trails, bumps, corners, etc?
Thanks for any advice!!

Not a good sled
Its a great sled! lol EXTREMELY reliable, great fuel mileage, smooth as silk, can be quick with some good clutching, flat cornering, decent ride in the rough, great fit and finish, you know, typical yamaha...You really can't go wrong with one of those sleds.

Called the dealer today. He wanted $5000 for the 01 600 sx. That's too much! I know it's brand new, but it's old! What would be a good price on this sled?
$4000 tops

I would think up to $4250 or so would be more fair.
i had a 00sxr 600, great sled.... wonderful in every way, owned it for apporx 5000 miles, not one breakdown.... i rode it 2 yrs, wife rode it 3... really nice sled.....
as for 5000 too much for a new 01..... lots of em on here round 2500-3000 with under 2000 miles on em...... go that route.... that motor is bulletproof... you may want to look for an 02 or newer, they had the dual bulb headlight and the higher elect output..... or you should be able to find a new leftover venom, same engine, viper chassis, for around 5000 at a dealer

It's a great sled, lousey price.
My buddy bought a Ski Don't in the fall of 03' when the Revs came out.
An old style chassie MXZ 800 for $4500. It was a brand new just one model year behind.
There are better deals to be had.

Went and looked at the sled today in Idaho Falls. It was brand new, but the dealer had put a 2" longtrack (either 136 or 141) on it to try to make it easier to sell in Idaho. As far as I'm concerned, putting that longer paddle track on an sx kind of defeats the purpose of an sx. The dealer would only come down to about $4600 on the sled, which is still way high!!! It books for about $3360. I guess he can keep it for another five years and wonder why it hasn't sold! I'll keep watching the forum for another one or what I'd really like is a viper s. The only problem is that most of the sleds on this forum are located at least a thousand miles from here (S.E. Idaho).
Thanks for everyones opinions.
