Ive got a dell dimension 3000 (had it for about 10 months) and all of the sudden, it won't let me access ebay. When I try to go to ebay, I will see the ebay homepage for about 1 second, then the McAfee page pops up with this message:

"Warning: Potentially Dangerous Web Site Detected!

You have been redirected to this Web page by the McAfee AntiPhishing Filter. The Web site you requested is in our list of Web sites that are potentially trying to obtain unauthorized confidential information. If you proceed to this site, you may be at risk, especially if you have clicked on this link from an e-mail.

Remember: Financial institutions will never ask you to confirm personal information through the Internet."

I disabled the McAfee stuff and I still get the same message. I called Dell, but apparently when I bought the computer, I got 3 yrs of hardware protection, but no software protection. Dell wanted 99 bucks over the phone before they would walk me through how to fix it. I told them to get #@&%.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Are you using a link or are you typing the web address in? I would try dumping your cookies and history and typing the web address in or google ebay and use that link, some roge web sites will change your settings and your favorites to redirect it somewere else. If that does not work your are above my knowlage.

PS. make shure all your Virus and spy were apps are up to date.

I use Norton Antivirus, and I got a similar message a few times last week. I tried getting around it by disabling Norton too - still got the same message - just like you did. I just went without E-bay for a day or so (only minor withdrawl symptoms ). After a day or 2 I could get back onto E-bay with no problem. I did try starting at E-bay home page and working up to sled parts - that didn't work. I didn't think to clean out temp files and cookies - maybe I'll do that if it happens again. Just remember - if the virus software is stopping you from accessing the site maybe it is doing what it's supposed to do, and you (we) should avoid the site at that time rather than trying to bypass the warning and ending up with a stupid virus problem.

I did clear my cookies and history. I tried using the favorites link, and manually typing it in. My McAfee is up to date, but when I disable everything, shouldn't I be able to get on to ebay without this message? Hopefully it will start working again as Old Thumper said.

Thanks

All you gotta do is go to your mcafee virus program go to the screen where you can view websites and such and there will be a list you either have to make a link for ebay or it should be on there... then make sure that you give ebay permision to bypass your mcafee... sorry if its not accurate enough I havent had to do this in a while... all together you should just shut off mcafee instead of mcafee just get adaware and run adaware every 2 weeks or so... this will take all the adware off of you computer and it will speed it up it will also delete viruses and process'... all in all all mcafee does is sit there and slow down the computer... not worth it. i havent had mine running for bout 2 months and i havent got any virus or anything bad on the computer its all the adaware program itll sweep all the bad programs off the computer... also every week or so delete your cookies and history to help the internet run better... by doing this go to tools on your internet explorer then go to internet options, then go to the botton that says delete cookies after that go to the button that says delete history... hope this helps man

I second that about Ad-Aware and Spybot. They are both free downloads, and you will probably be surprised at all the junk that they will pick up and get rid of.

Run a virus scan on your computer to be sure that you don't have a farming virus on your computer. Farming is when someone plants a virus on your computer that can redirect the web address that you type in your web browser, in this case www.ebay.com The virus can actually send you to a website that the virus's maker wishes. Most likely a site that looks like ebay.

When I got the Norton message that blocked me from the E-bay page, I did run a virus scan, I ran Ad-Aware, and I ran Spy-Bot. Nothing was detected other than the usual tracking cookie crap. Site was still blocked after the scans, and after re-booting. I could go to the E-Bay home page, and several sub-menus, but the snowmobile parts page was blocked. Next day it was accessible again. ???????????????????? Works now - life is good.
