once again, YES for the gap on the THREADS, making it bigger will mean more oil, but that is NOT where the spec is measured from. It is measured by pulling the cable apart at the adjustment and measuring the amount of cable showing, so a SMALLER gap here means more oil.

Is there a tool used to measure this that makes it accurate? I've been searching around our workshop and have been unable to find anything more accurate than a ruler...I have to believe that they make a tool to get it almost exact.

Vipers sip oil. I get about 300 miles to a quart. The SKI DOO guys are lucky to get 100 miles. SRX is about the same

I get more than 100, easily...I've seen 200+ without problems by taking it easy on the throttle. However, I just took a standard ruler to mine and measured the gap. It is only set at 20-21mm, and I use Klotz oil. I'm thinking I can lean it out a little bit. The reason I checked is because when the sled was at WOT I noticed there was some slack in the cable. If anyone knows of a more accurate tool for measurement, I would much rather use it than just going by a ruler and having problems as a result. Thanks for the help
Vernier Caliper is my tool of choice for setting pump gap and belt height on secondary.
Could someone please explain me a little more spesific about the cable gap?
Is it 20-22mm from the end of the cable "hose" (where you start to see the wire), measuring the wire length all the way included the end knob ,or to where the end "knob" starts?
I`m about to change my cable next week, so i need to know for sure..
As it is today, it seems to be using around 1 litre oil for 50 litres of fuel.. 50:1 or so? Is this enough for the viper?
Thanx

My 94 Vmax 600 uses about 3/4 gallon for 150 miles and I have no more adjustment left. I use the amsoil HP injector. Good thing I am a dealer and get it at cost.

wow..that seems like alot,,you need to measure your cable too just like
Ola's above this post.
Adj. to/ 27-29mm (1.06-1.14 in) I would set it to 28mm

Ahh, so i must open the adjusting link, and measure the gap there?
This is with the cable connected at the throttle-thumb, and not in the carb end, right?
One thing i find strange though.. Is the oil cable only moving 20mm from idle to full throttle? When i look at the thumb, it looks like more than 20mm of cable showing, at full throttle, to me..
I guess i`ll see this when removing my old cable..

Yea it's some where in the middle i guess of the cable you'll see it.
Just for being 100% shure:
Do i measure this with the cable mounted in both ends? Just by pulling the cable open, when i`m finished installing it?
I just changed out the old oil cable with a new longer one.. When i have it all mounted ready to go, i measure 19mm gap as shown in the pic above.. So i need to open it a little more i guess..
I adjusted it rough on the floor, to be somwhere like the old one.. perhaps i missed a few mm.. Allthough, it used so little oil that i almost got worried before..
What is the manual saying about the stock fuel/oil ratio? I think mine was a little below 50:1.. The "best" syntetic Polaris snowmobile oil, for what its worth..

also;
1 gal = 128 oz. 1 qt = 32 oz.
10 gal = 1280 oz
If you want 50:1, then 1280/50 = 26. You should burn 26 oz of oil per 1280 oz (10 gal) of gas.
26/32 = .8 -- 26 oz = 80% of a quart.
If you burn exactly 1 quart of oil per tank of gas, you're running 40:1 fuelil ratio. (1280/32 = 40) 40:1 is "richer" than 50:1.
1 qt = .95 liter.
