Hey all...
Friend of mine just bought a 2001 SX600R for cheap... seems like it is in decent shape with the exception of several good (6 inch or so) cracks on the hood (these are completely through, not surface cracks). Can such cracks be effectively repaired?
If so, what would you guys/gals recommend to repair this sort of damage? Certainly doesn't have to look great, just has to be a solid repair.
If not, what years/models would be interchangeable with a 2001 SX600R as far as the hood is concerned (or a place that I could look for this sort of info) so I can keep an eye out for something that will fit? He won't care if the decals aren't the same as original...
Thanks for any info you can provide & thanks for all of the great info I have gotten from these forums over the months!!!

i would use tape on the top side of hood than turn it over on a table with some thick blankets to keep it still.rough up the areas with a grinder and get some fiberglass repair with the mesh.cut the mesh a little larger than the damage than mix up the resin in a paint tray soaking the mesh and lay it over the area.work out the air bubbles with a plastic appler.add a couple of layers if the damage is bad before it hardens.next day remove tape and repair the top side by making a groove or a ditch over the cracks and putting some clear resin or something easer to sand out over them.

No missing pieces, just really good "all the way through" stress cracks (I know one was from rolling the sled over, previous owner's first weekend out on it). I was thinking with the right adhesive that a person could just "glue" the cracks back together, but my friend doesn't seem to think it would last given all of the stress from bumps and jumps. I think it could be done - there's some pretty strong adhesives/epoxies/JB Weld(my friend) stuff available now. Opinions? Thanks!

there is a lot of good glass repair products on the market now the stuff they repair funny cars with is the best, but would have to go to a bodyshop jobber to get it. you cant beat the mesh with resin if it goes on the under side of hood.

sounds easy enough do as bluewho said will work fine i would grind the grooves first then lay the fibered mesh down use duraglass "fiberglass reinforced bondo" on the top

Thanks for the suggestions... I figured that it should be repairable but just hadn't attempted something like this before. Appreciate the help!
