Im sorry fellas...I know this one has been beat to death......But I need a little bit of clarification...
I just bought a MM700....It has SLP triples, porting, airbox mods....
I want to purchase a peak head soon but for now I am going to do the head gasket mod.....
I see where it is reccomended that 1 layer be removed with triple pipes and 2 layers if a single.....I dont understand what the pipes have to do with it.....Is it ok to remove 2 layers or not?.......I ride at 4000+ feet and Im fine with running premium fuel........Thanks

For the mountain's, using 2 layer's removed with pipes works fine. A buddy has been using that set-up for 6000km, with no problem's.
We ride at 3000' to 7000', with a majority of it in the 3500' to 6500' range. At higher elevations, you can get away with running more compression, then the flatlander guy's. This help's restore lost power, due to less air density.
The other 3 manufactures will often increase the compression on their mountain sleds, to improve high altitude performance. Yamaha likes to use the same engine in the mountain sleds as their trail sleds. So the mountain guys end up getting an engine designed to operate at sea level.
Be sure to run premuim fuel though.

pipes put more heat in the engine because of the added power, more chance of burning down if you are running real high compression on top of it...
