towing with a lincoln Mark 8

I can't be the only one that has thought of this!

I use to tow with my v8 taurus (sho) right now I have a suburban that I was thinking about selling and I found a licoln Mark 8 for short money....I shuffle cars a lot....

Has anyone towed with a mark 8....I think it should be ok as long as the roads are ok...and with a little tonge weight shouldn't be bad. has traction control. studded snows should be ok..

I used to work as a tech for a ford dealer and thought that things definetly got the nut for it even though its geared high...just another idea :yam:

plus If I'm returning to canada the next weekend and have a place to keep my sleds then 90 mph on the way home would be nice.

Man, towing with a rear-wheel drive car in the winter....that takes guts....then again, I guess it depends on where you travel/general condition of the roads, how much snow you tend to get and how often you're really gonna trailer. I live in Central Ontario and own a 95 cougars XR-7 (4.6L V8)...I don't mind bombing around town in it in the winter, but long distance and towing's gotta be 4x4 for me....The Mark 8 should have plenty of guts (whatch the trasmission if you're pulling double trailer - may need to add a trany cooler)..I'd also figure 4 snows are mandatory....Pushing a rear-wheel driver in the snow isn't my idea of fun. I'd stick with the Suburban, personally. Either way, Good Luck ;)!
 
I towed with a crow vic, no problems at all, it better than without a trailer because of the tounge weight.
 
check the mfgs specs for towing. some unibody structured vehicles arnt rated very high due to hitch size restrictions. ive seen people tow some pretty big stuff with a way underrated vehicle. not the safest or smartest tools in the shed. excessive engine, transmission and structural wear is sure to be the norm. can it done? sure, should it be done? up to the individual. they give darwin awards away every day. can you imagine, the hitch you fab up to the car breaking loose from the rear structure and watching your toys flip helplessly all over the roadway? explain that to your insurance and the police as the wrecker driver overcharges you for the clean up, and tows for multiple units, sleds, trailer and possibly auto. wont be pretty. ski
 
Years ago, a group of riders from Davidson, Sask. built a Lincoln tow vehicle. They owned a Polaris dealership called "Fast Toys for Boys". Well, times have changed and the business is now a RV trailer business called Terrys RV's. Anyway, the Lincoln tow rig is still in the yard and probably for sale. Hope this helps you.
 
The Mark VIII should have at least a 2,000 pound towing capacity. I had a Mercury Cougar (unibody) with the 3.8L V6 and the towing capacity was 2,000, so the bigger, longer, more power Mark VIII should do at least that. Not saying its better than a truck by any means, and traction may prove to be a big problem, but it could be done if you had to.
