Hello fellow Yamaholics. I just found this website and enjoy the positive feedback and information people share. I am having problems starting my srx 6. It is a 99 and since season 1 it takes forever to get started after the summer. I put stable and fresh gas in for storage and fog the carbs. Went to get it out of the trailer last night and it would not fire. Poured a little gas in the cylinders and it would run for 20 seconds. Pulled carbs off today and checked float bowels. No gas in bowels. Cleaned carbs and jets. Checked reed valves and they seem fine. Any suggestions on why it won't start. Also when I pulled carbs I put a screw in coolant line. It was not seeted all the way and all the coolant ran out. IS sled coolant mixed 50/50????? ANy suggestions would help in getting this sled to start. Once it fires and runs I don't have any problems with it during the winter.. What gives. I appreciate any feedback and help.

The Yammies are very hard to start after sitting a long time. The float bowls empty & with those tiny 42.5 pilots it takes a lot to get em going again.

I believe Yamaha says to mix the coolant at 60/40 or so, but most people just do 50/50 mix

i FOGGED LAST SPRING AS WELL AND WHEN I TRIED STARTING HER IT TOOK LIKE FIFTY PULLS AND NOTHING. AS SOON AS I PUT NEW PLUGS IN IT STARTED RIGHT UP.

over the summer the gas evaporates in the carb bowls also when you fogged it you cover the plugs with fogging oil hernce fouling them like your sled would if it used to much oil.it takes alot of pulls to get going because you are filling the carbs back up with gas you change out the plugs because they got fouled with the fogging oil

It used to take my yammies 30+ pulls every fall but then I got a Deluxe and it fires right up with the turn of a key !!! :Moon:

First Of All Get Rid Of The Old Gas From When You Put It In Storage, I Had The Same Trouble About A Month Ago And Then Put Fresh Gas In And It Fired Right Up , After I Cleaned The Carbs Of Course. Good Luck

I experienced the same exact thing today... we have 2 '98 SRX700's and neither one fired up. Same spring prep done as original poster mentioned (Stabil, fogging). Changed plugs after I pulled on the first one for about 10 minutes (gonna be sore tomorrow), but no difference on a few minutes of pulling after new plugs were in... I am 99% sure it isn't getting any fuel, but I just don't know what to do about it. Tanks in both sleds are maybe 1/4 full... should I syphon that out & fill them up with fresh or just top off each tank & leave the old gas in there to mix with the new? Will that even help these things start? This is my first "post-storage" season with these sleds (or any sleds for that matter - newbie here) & I really could use a hand in getting these going. Thanks!

I never use fogging oil waste of time, take the spark plugs out, pour some amsoil in the cylinders, turn it over a few times, turn the fuel off( you will have to install one) stabil in the gas and let it run out of fuel and spray the entire engine and hoses with wd-40 and let it sit. It was sitting since april, went in the shed last week, turn the fuel on, and 4 pulls later it was running. Worse case spray a little starting fluid in it. My srx started easy than my warrior

I ALWAY GIVE MINE 10 TO 12 PULLLS, THEN LET IT SIT FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. ALWAYS STARTS WITH 1 OR 2 MORE PULLS. AND IT ONLY HAS 7200 MILES ON IT. :yrules:

Got'em going...

Got both of my sleds going this morning, finally. Like I said before, I am pretty new to this, but here is what I did:

Syphoned as much out of the tank as I could (looked pretty much empty). Dumped 5 gallons of fresh premium in the tank along with a couple "glugs" of red-bottle heet. Pulled each plug and squirted about 1 second's worth of fresh fuel in each cylinder (used one of those squirt bottles you can buy at the supermarket for ketchup or mustard or whatever you need to squirt), reinstalled plugs & wires, choked it, and pulled.

The first sled I had to do this about 6-7 times before it stayed running (I thought it would never start). The second sled (the one my GF rides) fired up and stayed running on the first try.

Anyway, I thought I would share for any other newbies that might be reading this. Not saying I "did it the right way", just saying how I did it. Thanks to viperino for mentioning dumping some gas into each cylinder... that most certainly was the key to getting them started.

srx starting

Cmon srx owners, you need more patience!!!!!! :) I know ya want it to start, but ya got to just keep pulling before taking things apart.

This year, 65 pulls exactly since starting my 02 srx last July. Everyday since then, just a handful of pulls to start.

Also experince similar problem in real low temps, like -10F or colder, she'll take 30-40 pulls. Sled runs perfect so not going to touch anything!

I can guarantee that I pulled on that first sled way more than 65 times. The pair of sleds never took more than 2-4 pulls to get started between both of them during the season. I figured getting them going the first time this year wasn't going to be as easy as a couple of pulls, but I didn't know what to think after 5 minutes of pulling (somewhat slower towards the end hahaha).

Anyway, hard post-storage starting or not, we still love our SRXs. It was nice to take a quick run around the property and feel that instant explosive power again. Come on snow!!!

I've had 6 SRX's and a SXR - when I start them for the first time in the fall/winter, I pull on them 6 or 8 times - then I put about 1/2 a teaspoon full of gas in each cylinder, and they start right up - I agree with 2001SRX=fast, they could use a primer on them!
