Enough Power ??????

Hi again,
Has anyone installed a 12v power plug (cigarette lighter plug) in there SRX
and does the SRX have enough power output to support powering up my
GPS or PDA without adding a battery to the sled
The power charger i need to use for the PDA is a 12v to 5.4v / 2410mA

I'm already using a headed shield wired to the brake light power
in the handle bars

You should be fine, that unit is a total of 13 watts. Thats assuming the for maximum output of the converter, you probably won't draw at max. even if you do 13 watts is hardly anything.
I*E=watts, 5.4*2.4 =12.96 watts, power in is equal to power out. Those coverters are over 90 percent efficent.

Calculated line in current should be around 1004 ma

vipertripplexxx, that is the rate on the car adapter.
The unit current consumption is 0.4 A.
Does this matter?

I have the cigarette plug mounted & I'm up it the air on powering it.
I started out wiring for small battery with solar back-up charger

I'm pretty sure the SRX doesn't have a charging circit, does it????

That is the maximum the adapter can handle, if nothing is pluged in to the adapter the idle current is probably under .1 of an amp. Sounds like the adapter can handle two units. ;)!
 
I recalculated the power .4 of an amp at 5.4 volts is a little over 2 watts, thats nothing at all really. with the inverter it's still probably under 3 watts.

With the SRX's 300watt system being so finicky
I was nervous adding anymore items than I already have (headed shield)
I found in the book, that adding more than 30watts of accessories to the 300w system
is not recommended & could cause multiple engine performance problems.

Do you happen to know what the average headed shield draws for watts





.
 
Are you sure the O/P from the alternator is DC? All the Yamaha lighting circuits I have worked on were AC and an oscilloscope showed a very strange looking AC. The 12V DC lighter plug that came with your electronics may be designed to reduce the voltage but may not be designed to deal with an AC input. Since I haven't worked on your sled nor have I worked with the electronics you are connecting, my comments are offered as a caution. If you are wrong it could damage the electronics. I cooked an electronic tach as my lesson.
 
The red wire going to the keyswitch is rectified 12 volts dc. to ground. There are condensers in the circuit to help eliminate ripple.
