Air bubble in oil line?

I was riding my SRX yesterday and I checked my oil level and it was fine. So I started riding again. A little ways down the path I hit a small stump at a very slow speed, so I was pretty sure I didn't hurt anything. I tipped my sled on it's side to check for any damage. There wasn't any but oil came pouring out of the sled. I forgot to put my oil cap on! LOL So what I'm wondering is it possible that I could have an air bubble in my oil line when I tipped the sled on it's side? I don't want to burn down my sled so I thought I would make sure.

fill the oil tank, get the sled running and pull the oil line adjuster apart. This will make it go full fat stinky rich on oil. If it ain't smoking like Cheech and chong, its not getting oil. Maxdlx

You could just bleed the oil pump to be sure...

yea we got a good taste of snow this weekend, got about 5 o 6 inches on saturday, got to pull the SRX out and rip around a little bit. DAMN does that thing transfer weight since putting in those studs with the new hacksaw, unbelievable traction.

So I want to set the largest gap that the adjuster will allow??????? Correct???......that way it will be "full fat stinky rich"????

the pump will be pumping full flow if ya do that, to move the air pocket through faster

no, what he meant was to pull the cable apart at the adjuster and hold it there for awhile, pulling it apart there has the effect of being wide open on the throttle, so the oil pump goes to full stroke and will let you know that it is getting good oil. However, in my opinion this isn't the best way to check unless you are running some premix as well because if its not getting oil, it won't run too long while you are holding the cable apart...

easy buddy i wasn't talking to you, i was answering SS's question. Paul didn't mean to actually adjust the thread gap, he meant to pull the two parts of the cable apart to get full stroke for a few minutes.

Just to clarify, if you pull it open like that, you will know in seconds if it is working. If it doesn't get super smokey real fast, then bleed the pump. Maxdlx

Ok I thought that's what you meant, I didn't know for sure though. I tried that earlier and it didn't seem to be smoking bad. I'll try it again though. Say it doesn't work, can I run one tank of pre-mix and let the bubble work itself out or do I have to bleed the pump? If so, how much oil do I add to a full tank of gas?

yea i would just run some pre-mix and keep an eye on it, you'll be fine.

not shure how i'd pre-mix never had to do it, but someone will chime in here.

yea premix it 50:1 or so and watch the oil bottle and see if it is using oil. Start with a full oil reservoir so you can gauge how much it used in a certain number of miles.

Ok just for clarification how do you figure the amount of oil? How many ounces of oil for a full tank of gas? I always forget how to figure an oil ratio because I barely ever have to do it. Ooohhh the things we take for granted!

What type of oil are you ussing. You can also let the sled sit and get cold. When you start it up if it smokes like a cold sled, you are all right. Just some oils smoke more at start up. Maxdlx

Ok, I when out to start my sled and had the adjuster pulled all the way apart and it was smokin' pretty good so I knew it was using oil. Adjusted the oil line and I was off! Doesn't use as much oil as it did before either! Thanks guys. This site rules. I learn more stuff here than I can from a manual.
