My 99 500sx races at idle so I took some carb cleaner looking for a leak. When I spayed some in the window where the water pump belt is...it races more which tells me that its gone on the magneto side. Oh Ya...it does have 7,000 miles on it and I've had since it was new. Do I have to pull the engine out? Do I have to take the top end apart? Can I just take off the windinge plate...move the water pump and magneto and get to it that way? And if so...can it be swaped out for a new one that way? HELP!?

I'm in the process of changing the crank seals in my SRX. You can do it, if your carefull, by removing the bottom half of the crankcase. I did this by flipping my motor upside down. This will avoid you having to remove the cylinders and pistons etc. I found once I had mine apart that I had crank problems(probably because of the bad seal) so I ended up doing a complete tear down in the end. If the motor has never been rebuilt, with 7000 miles, I would suggest doing a complete tear-down and checking everything over. Maybe replace the rings while your at it. Which ever process you use, you will have to take the motor out to properly change the seals.

yup that is a good indicator that the crank seals are bad. Get the engine out of there and tear it apart. ;)!
