i have a 97 700 sx and sometimes it revs, sometimes it dont, When it wont rev it sits about 5000 rpm and seems like its hitting a rev limiter? any ideas on what would cause this? sometimes when i hit the gas it runs great, other times it just sputters at around 4000 rpm. its idle is also very erratic and takes it a couple seconds to reach a idle. any ideas id apreciate. :2strokes:

do a search on TORS and see if that solves your problem.

I figure its probably your TORS - so you need to bypass it to check it out.

Throttle cabel may in turn be to tight.

do the search and learn how to bypass the TORS and go from there.

As Tod said TORS.
Your switch on the carbs is probably bad or incorrect throttle cable adjustment. You will find many threads about this topic.

I agree on the TORS as probable, if that doesn't fix it take your carbs off and clean them, you may have a plugged pilot jet. When you have the carbs off, set the fuel screws to 2 turns out from lightly seated as well, that will make it idle better, get to idle quicker, and run cleaner and snappier on the bottom end.
