another ?? about hifax

I've got new hifax on my sled, and no miles hardly at all. but i noticed the inside of the hifax is getting real thin shavings peeled off. Is that normal?? I'm guessing the track and track clips are shaping the hifax, but on the other hand, i'm new and wondering if theres gonna be a problem
 
it may need a track alignment. if it was off it could cause the track to run farther to one side or the other and the clips would wear the hyfax on the inside.

Is it on one side or both?
 
i've only noticed it on the left rail, inside right after the front curve down. it was just in the shop for service, they sposed to align track, tighten, clean carbs, and studded the track up the middle
 
just the one side, and all the track clips look good. it was just in the shop for service, track alignment, tighten, ect. This isnt normal i take it, GREAT, got a trip in 5 days
 
guess i should also clarify, when i say hardly any mile si mean it was at the shop, they did the work, loaded it on trailer, and i backed it into garage, by hand. No reverse. So it seriously has barely one mile if that. Thats one reason i wodnered if itd be some-thing common with new ones to be shaved alittle. I'm taking the shops word the tracks, alligned and to correct tighness. Should i trust a yamaha dealer? If they are like my local har;ey dealer. Nope
 
it would be bearly impossible for that kind of wear to develop without driving the sled. I can only gues the marks were there before they were installed (defect?) or the marks happened while aligning the track as they most likely ran the sled on a stand to do it. If the track was way off to begin with, the marks could have happened then (still not likely).

My advice is double check alignment yourself and then if eerything else looks good, put a few miles on it and see if it gets worse or not.
 
If it wrecks something, its the dealer's fault for a poor setup.

see how it looks after your trip, and bring it back then if theres a problem.

I know its human nature to want the new sled you just spent too much money for to be absolutly perfect, but its not reasonable, your going to get it scratched eventualy. my first trip with my new sled I bent the radius arm on a hidden stump, and then spent the next hour trying to get the sled out of the little valley where I found it.
 
thanx for the info. its not a new sled, 01 with 2600mile i just had it in shop for the season service. the hifax are new, and its also the bottom of the hifax, but inside edge that looks shaved. im gonna take it on the trip and hope like hell every-thing goes right.
 
that is pretty normal, the track moves around a lot when cornering and the clips may rub the hyfax a little, scraping some off. Just make sure your track is aligned and run her.
 
running her is what i did last night. had sum snow down here in indiana, so took for a 27 mile spin. still not sure whats goin on under there. doesnt look exactly right, but i'll take it on the trip and see what happens. western michigans u.p. next week :WayCool:
