97 SX - need help with Trailing arm support/loose rivets

My sled is miles away Up North. A friend of mine was looking over my sled and noticed that the trailing arm supports/brackets, that are riveted on, are loose. I found out that this was a problem with the '97 SX. Some of the guys on this site opted to use small stainless bolts with Nylocs due to the larger rivets that are required and can not be installed without an expensive rivet gun.

I am going to head upnorth to make this repair and I want to be well equiped. I can't even vision what these trailing arm brackets/supports looks like.

Can someone please take a snapshot of this plate/bracket. Any insite on this repair would be helpful. Do I need to remove other components to gain access? How long should this repair take?

I don't have a picture of the mount, but it is VERY easy to do. Just bring with a good drill and some good bits (make sure to bring a few of the size you need in case you snap them while drilling through the bracket). You do not need to remove anything else to do this update. The size of the bolts is up to you, 1/4-20 stainless with nyloc nuts is probably what most people use. Hope that helps!
 
Yes-as holic said.... Drill out the ones you can get to and replace with the bolts and nylock nuts. On mine I did the fix on one side then the other two years latter.

One side I fixed with new rivets and used the air riveter, the other side i fixed with button head bolts and locktited my nylock nuts.

Sorry Tod, going to beat you to it. ;)! At least if they are the same. These pics are from a 2000 Vmax 600dx so your mileage may vary.

yup those 8 rivets on each bracket are easy to get to. Drill them out and throw in some stainless bolts with lock nuts and run her.
