:o| I haven't even had a chance to ride this sled yet and I had to tear dowm my 1992 Exciter II 570 engine last night to check a scuffed piston on the carb side. It was a good thing I did this, the piston skirt was cracked. I would like to replace both pistons even though the PTO side has only about 1000 miles on it. There is a total of 2600 mile on the sled. A yamaha mechanic said that I could just put one new piston in and go but Yamaha OEM parts are not cheap. I was looking at $260 cdn for a piston, rings, gaskets(top and bottom) and 2 circlips. I can get a wiseco kit for $254 cdn.
I would like to know what you guys think of aftermarket piston kits, gaskets sets and which is the best. So far all I can find for pistons is Wiseco and Kimpex. Is there any more out there that anybody has used.
Is there anything else I should do to this engine while I have it tore down. I want this engine to be reliable, it is for my wife to ride.
I have heard that Exciter 570 engines can be very fussy when it comes to outside temp., and then the next guy says to let them warm up good and they will last for ever. If this engine is in constant need of jet changes and wrenching every day I will just rebuild it and put it up for sale.

if your just going to fix it up and sell it, i would try and find a used set of pistons on here, ebay, salvage yard. as long as they are in specs. no need to sink a ton into it just to sell it. Is that your only sled? lots of sx and vmax's for sale going cheap. would be a good upgrade
