the biggest piece of junk i ever owned was a 1997 formula 500 deluxe

welded twice in suspension
once front suspension
clutch blew up
chain case fell apart
it ratled pinged and made fart noises.
bought it for $6000
3 years latter i sold it for $1100
thats all it was worth

This sled is going back a bit but it was a 1990 Formula plus. It was like a board with skis and a track. I don't know what the yamaha's were like back then but I'm sure they were better than the formula I had. Went to a 98 SRX 3 years ago and probably will never change from the yami's.

My old mans arctic crap Pantera EFI 580, you wouldn't believe the problems with that thing, its what converted both of use to Yamaha, we'll never look back again.
wireharness
Fuel pump
Fuel tank (yeah crap got in there and plugged up the hole and it wouldn't go past 50 mph talk about tough to daignose!)
Starter - 3 Times!
Starter gear
Hand warmers- twice!
Suspension cracking
etc etc He bought the sled for $5000, put over $2500 into it and sold it for $2000 what a jip

actually been lucky. the worst I had was a 97 600sx, and that was the damn dealers fault, he never told me of the recalls and updates. and he had idiots working for him that never tightened anything. it was a good sled though, like I said I have been lucky :)

Man that sucks, incompetent wrenchers are the most annoying thing in the sledding industry. What good is a bulletproof sled if it's wrenched like it came from thief river falls?

my buddie had one of those. we switched out on a ride. my dads 1986 et340t rode a hell of a lot better than that thing cause i couldnt keep up to him onece he was on it without beating myself to death in the process. he was 6' 1" 200 lbs. i was 5' 6" at 160 lbs. :yrules:

1997 XC600. the sled was built to go fast in a straight line. get it on the trail, and you were replacing suspension parts weekly. owned it for 3 months, then got the viper!

Sinse the post did not specify whether or not it had to be a sled I am going to say a Volkswagen Passat VR6!! #$%&* thing was a money pit. Bought it used from a dealer and thought it would be bullet proof because I had had Volkswagens before.....This one was the lemon of all lemons!! #$%&* dealer hosed me and I took it back and told Him blue smoke was coming out and then I had a European auto guy look at it and he said I would need a new engine to correct the problem!! :die: Thing went through like a quart of oil every 700 miles and the dealer told me that this was "normal". I threw a nutty and told them I ought to drove the car right through thier showroom window....This got the COps called.. I left and yelled in the showroom that nobody should by a car their unless the wanted to get ripped off. I paid $14,500 for this thing and it should have been flawless!!! The engine wasn't and it did not start this until a month after I bought it!!! :die:

I bought a 5 year old 89 Mach1 in 94. Thing had 6500mi on the clock and the rear shock mount was broken right off when I got it. I welded her up and was good to go. I put about another 2k on it and never missed a beat as far as the engine goes. However I put 3 speedo cables and about 5 rewind kits in it. Every time it would sneeze a belt it would catch the speedo cable and wrap it around the clutches (not a pretty sight). I'd be riding it flat out at night and sneeze the belt, looked like the fourth of july with all the fire and sparks flying out of the clutch from the metal in the cable. That damn sled was like riding a lumber wagon though. I'm pretty sure I'm an 1" shorter because of it.

When I was a kid we always had Ski-Doo's in the 70's. We had a '73 Silverbullet 440. Now that was a real pile. We have owned Yammie's since 1982. Personally the first one I bought was my 1988 Phazer. The only Yammie I owned that was kind of a piece of crap was a 1992 Exciter II LE. It never quit, but it was SLOW and everything I tried to do to hop it up, it got SLOWER.......... several pipes, porting....you name it. I found out later through Pat Hauck that it was the ignition holding it back. It seems you always learn what the problem was after you already have gotten rid of it. LOL!!

1983 John Deere Sport fire air cooled 440. It was a good sled over all. That would be, after we replaced the entire motor at the 580 mile mark on the trip. After that it ran flawless, but if memory serves it was around $800-$900 or so...Yikes! Remember this was 83'. On the other hand, at the same time as the Sportfire we bought an early model 440 Liquifire...That thing was fast, and rode great. Had it up to 104..according to the speedo...who knows??

my 1995 V-max was my biggest pile of dung. Although it started no later than the 3rd pull, it constantly fouled plugs, blew oil out the exhaust donuts and rode rougher than my ex-wife. I sold it to my brother inlaw who has also had it in the shop several times. We end up towing him on most trips anywhere.

79 Blizzard 9500 - Thing ran mint and was retarded fast..........from May through September, wintertime it would foul plugs, and the motor would seize (temporarily) at least once every time out, never could figure the damn thing out. Sold it to a buddy for $200 and a case of Genny. Thing finally grenaded on my buddy and he traded it for a furnace and 2 cases of Busch (swear to God), then bought it back for $25. Still in his barn somewhere

My worst was a 95 Ext 580 Cat. Put two cranks in the sled because of air holes in the casting. AC wouldn"t pay for the repairs even nothing there was a problem. Got stranded the first time 200 miles from my truck, and two weeks later got stranded 400 miles from my truck. Needless to say, had three cats at the times sold all of them and switched to Polaris for a few years. No problems but wanted a couple 4 strokes so switched to Yamaha this year. Last Yamaha I rode was in 1986 and had 4 at that time. (1980 1982 1985 2-1986) Never had a problem with any of the Yamaha even with teenage boys riding them.
