Viper / SX700 rear heat exchanger interchange??

Does anyone know if the rear heat exchanger from a '97 700sx will work on an '02 Viper ER? I was having trouble with temp light coming on last weekend on hardpack. Air temp was in the upper 20s.

I looked up the SXs part # on Yamaha site, but its a replacement part and the Vipers exchanger is an accessory with a different #. It looks like the SX exchanger is "flat" , while the Vipers is "curved"?

I have access to the exchanger from a wrecked SX, thus my question.

Has anyone had experience/or done this?? :?

sure it would work...only prob is the hose is bigger on the viper/srx running board exchangers and the sx is smaller. I have used the smaller hoses forced them on..they are tough little buggers.
 
Gonesleddin2, glad you found this site and now I see your problem.
Out here we all run ice scratchers for ice or hardpack, have you
considered that.
 
Blue4me, Thanks for the site info! Always nice to find other yami sledheads! Not a lot off them around here. Ive never known anyone to run scratchers... Do they really make that much of a difference?

Our problem has been, we might as well live in Miami for as much snow as weve gotten in the last few years. We had over a foot on the ground a week ago and now its raining so you can guess how much riding is going on now :(

MrSled, Thanks for the info on the hose size... never even gave that a thought... I figured the SRX and SX chassis were similar, so the SX exchanger should fit on the Viper.. Looks like Im going to have all summer to figure it out. Have you actually used this set-up?

Gonesleddin2, ice scratchers for sure do help. The ones I have mount on
the front of the suspension rail. They are spring loaded so when not in use
the're out of the way and when you need them just reach down, pop em
loose and they drop on the ground. This creates a spray of ice or snow
that lubes the hyfax and cools your sled. I got mine from Mountain
Performance, they seemed reasonably priced and I liked the stainless
construction.
