After riding my 2002 Viper for a few years with a 121" track, I decided to install a 136" track and new rails. I purchased the Maxximm Performance kit and it went together really well. It was great to have all the parts in a kit. I also put in the new wheels that Yamaha came out with this year, had to do a few modifications to get them all to fit right. All that's left to do is to test ride it and tune it in. I am sure I will be adjusting the Ohlins and fine tuning some clutching. Off to somewhere in Michigan this weekend. :yam:

looks good. i would suggest upgrading to c&a or mountain skis. the stock ones will be unuseable!

Last year I put on the deep keel, all plastic skis that Yamaha offers. It was quite an improvement over the 2002 ski. How many inches of carbide do you think I will need? I was running 6" up until this year.

yea that thing really looks killer. I love the showroom look of it, looks stock. Very sharp, should be a blast on the trails.

8 or 10". i have 10" with an unstudded 136" x 1.75" and they work great.

Vedy nice! Yep the color wheels totally set it off. i put the red ones on mine. I wish I had the time or the garage space to keep mine that clean.

Thanks guys for all the compliments and tips for the skis/carbides. I am a little worried about all the handling and rear suspension issues that I have read about with some of the 136" conversions. I guess the first ride will tell which direction I will need to go. Also, here is a shot of the motor. My thinking is well maintained = reliability.

that thing looks great :) is the pipe painted silver with the heat sheild put back on after? and why did you need to modify the wheels? looks fantastic!

03Viperguy - The pipe was ceramic coated and I thought it looked better with the heat shields in place, especially after I spent all my time polishing them. The wheel story is that the bearings in those new wheels are narrower than the stock Viper wheel bearings. For the rear wheels I had to make a longer bushing for each side or the axle nut would not tighten all the way. The bushings are about 1/8" longer for each side. For the front wheels, I had to narrow the black plastic spacers from the stock wheels because of the new narrow wheel bearings. I also had to machine off the plastic for clearance of the snap ring.

That was some work. I bought the OEMs' and I just put them on with no adjustments...Hmmm? I have 4500 miles on them and they're still in excellent condition.

Allvipedup- Which OEM wheels did you use? I used to have the OEM Yamaha wheels that was a "swirl' design and those basically bolted right on. The OEM Yamaha wheels that I put on, just came out this year.

What problems?

I want to extend my 02 Viper. We've done XC's and MXZ's and it's basically a bolt in and go issue. I want to put an M10 in it, but I may go with Tracks USA extensions. I plan on using the MaxxPerformance tunnel extension so that I can use the rear cooler, and a 1 x 1.25 track, probably a Ripsaw. What kind of handling and suspensions issues are there? Any help / info much appreciated

Have you considered looking into the new Bender Pro action mono-conversion. Lose like 12-16 lbs. It's supoose to transfer like the OEM design too. Aboout $900 with shock v. $1200-$1800 for the m-10. I'm not only about Bender but they have the single performance pipe and silencer raplacement it's the only one I've read about with any real benefit...lose 24lbs and gain 4 ponies...supposedly. I would call Tom Hartman (Hartman Inc.) for his tunnle and extension kit just to compare...Hartman's seems like an easier kit to install. The ripsaw is an awesome track, but he Hacksaw I've been reading is better for ditchbangin. Here's my nickel...got 3 pennies?

Tracksusa extensions with maxx tunnel extensions work great. The tracksusa are bar none the best rail extensions to use, much stronger than the rest with their mounting style and structural rib. The maxx perf tunnel extension allows you to use a rear exchanger, which is a big plus, and they use oem hose covers which look great. Can't go wrong. Derrty_North_Racing did his '97 sx with this setup last year and it turned out great. He used the camo connected cone track, hooks up awesome as well.

handling will still be very close to stock if you get better skis. if you run the stockers, it will push. i have the 05 mountain skis and really like them. they bite good and steering effort is really light for a deep keel ski. plus being a little over 7" wide with an adjustable stance (-1", stock and +1") makes them great on and off trail. here is mine with a maxx tunnel extension and tracks usa rail extensions.
