I was curious about the secondary sheave plates on my 700 sxr. What is the purpose of them, and has anybody taken them off ? They dont seem to really do anything and add rolling weight to your secondary. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

They are there to reduce wind resistance from the rotation of your clutch. Leave them on, there are people that are looking to put these ON their sleds. As far as I know anyway, but someone will correct if wrong.

These plates dramatically increase the amount of top speed you have, I have heard of case where these plates were 3 MPH faster then without the plates on the same day! Leave them on.

A lot of mountain guys pull them off in order to keep clutch temps down, but for general riding, especially speed runs, keep them on.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that they would help with wind resistance a very small amount but not that much.
