Clutch engagement shims

other than raise to engagement, how else do they affect the clutch? higher or lower RPM's? Just wondering, Im running Vmaxjohn's setup on a 500, but im reving to 8200-8400 and i have a slight bog when i mash the gas from a stop. but I also had two shims in for my old set up, I just left them in there and it engages at 5000-6000. I know thats pretty high, but if i take them out is that bog going to get worse? and how will it affect my RPM's? Oh yea, and my secondary is set at 80*

It basically causes the spring rate to increase. Take the shims out and run it. vmaxjohn's clutch setup is purely a starting point. From there you have to fine tune it to your riding style and conditions.

you might have something binding in the clutches, or your fuel screws may be set wrong, or you may have a plugged a pilot.

Pull the shims out for sure. Try it out and see what the revs are at WOT.
You may need to fine tune from there.
For the 500 you should be at 7800 RPM.
