help...sled quit

Hey guys,

Wanting some opinions here. I took my sled for a 5 hour ride....didn't miss beat. I decided to stop and fuel up on the way home. I shut it off, fueled up and it wouldn't start. Everything was fine. I had to get a friend to pick me up. (Out of town) You can pull and pull... with your finger in the sparkplug wire socket, with no spark. The tach doesn't flicker.... it's just dead. Is this a cdi? Thanks
 
I checked the kill switch and ignition switch with an ohmeter..... they check out o.k.. I have all the hood and other mouldings ripped off and can't find a place where a wire has rubbed through or pulled apart. Is there any way to check ignition components with a test light, while pulling the engine over.
 
Yamaha's are know to wear out the wiring harness under the engine.
If all wires check out you need to look at ingnition switch, CDI and maybe the stator.
 
that happened to me a while back on 700sx, it was running fine, sut it off then would not start, no spark. replaced the stator and had no probloms ever since.
 
You can test the output of the stator components, but you'll need a fluke meter and a peak voltage adapter (they are over 60$) from a yamaha dealer. Then you need to get the peak voltage readings from a dealer. They are listed in the annual yamaha update seminar books.
 
I got the readings from my local yamaha dealer. It turned out to be my stator. (low resistance) I removed it, took it to a local elec. shop for rewinding.... they said it's so burnt they can't do anything with it. Is there a company that makes aftermarket stators for this sled? (1993 exciter II sx 570) My local yammy dealer wants $420 for a new one.
 
There is a company in Saskatoon that has those parts I was talking to a guy on sunday and he got a coil from them for $30.00 I will try to find the name and post back.
 
theres a big difference between a coil and a stator. I work for a yamaha dealer. Let me see what kind of a price i can get you I'll post tomorrow and let you know what my boss will do.
 
the list price on the stator is only $388 and change that dealer has a markup problem. i could probably get some more off that
