How to not foul plugs, fill me in

well, the other day i bought a box of plugs, and the plugs were about 6 bucks a plug. I havnt really fouled any plugs lately on my srx 700, but i really want to eliminate as many chances of doing so as i can. How long should i let the think warm up? Please fill me in

Warm it up until you can feel heat in the exchangers. Do not touch the throttle until your ready to ride, only use the choke to keep your sled running.
 
I guess the best advice is just what 98srx6 said!!!!! Yamaha jets their sleds REAL FAT to try to reduce warranty repairs... yes, you could rejet your sled and get a few more ponies out of her,,,,but,,,,,the nights when its 20 below and you've had a few pops in you, and you open her up on a frozen lake,,,you'd probably be pulling her home after she melts down!!!!!! in theory, your sled will run better in 20 below weather compared to 20 above weather!!!!! I fix a LOT of my friends 2 stroke saws and snowblowers... I tell them to ALWAYS mix 32 to 1 even if it tells them 50 to 1...because,,, IT'S CHEAPER TO REPLACE PLUGS THAN PISTONS!!!!! yup starting procedure is key, don't touch that throttle until the exchangers start to feel warm. Use full choke to start it, immediately go to half choke for 5 to 7 seconds, then shut it off. If it starts to die give it a quick shot of half choke and shut it off. Do this until it runs on its own, but DO NOT touch the throttle. Also helps to put it on a track stand once its warmed up to free everything up, also much easier on the drive line.
 
Just had my sled at the dealer for the prewinter tuneup. Now, in 20 degree weather, with it outside for 24 hours it takes four pulls full choke to start. I do the half choke for the five to ten seconds, and then off and it idles fine... does that sound standard?

3-4 pulls on a cold motor sounds about right to me. More with mine sometimes.
