You didn't get those pipes yet. You can go a simple set up and remove the rivet from the tip of the weight and add 2 engagement shims. That is the simplest fastest set up.
I tried my set up last night and I will need some minor fine tuning but I found it pulled really hard. 8dn10 empty, 49/45 helix stock springs. I did not get to see what RPM I am at WOT but when I pin the throttle she goes right to 8800. I will want it to climb to about 9100 from there max. I will also need to check piston wash to make sure jetting is ok. WHat parts do you have, you may be able to make something work. No matter who's set up you use you will need to fine tune for your riding. 89l, or 8dn20 work very well on pipes Sx as well according to guys here that have run with these. There are many set ups that will work. How much do you want to spend on parts or how fast do you want to get the sled going.

parts dont matter cuz i work at a yamaha dealership, so weights and rivets are readily availabe, as is the jetting aspect...
all i want is to know its not gonna blow up on me once everythings in place...so a "safer" setup is what i need to know so i can tune from there

clutching wont make you blow up....jetting will.
I am using 147.5 mains and stock pilots and needle settings. From last nights ride it seems ok as far as no bogs but I am going to check to make sure I am not lean...
Lean conditions is when the machine pops.
What do you want out of your clutching...trail riding, racing, aggresive trail pulling hard out of the corners. Are you changing you grearing as this will affect your set up. Give us more info so we can give you options.

ok...i want hard pulling out of a corner type of clutching...for gearing it has changed, went to a 21/40...i'll use those specs for jetting too for now and go from there

if you REALLY want to scream out of the corners use 8CA's with a 51/43 and green spring. You need 14.5mm rollers with those weights as well, they really pull like crazy up to 90mph with decent top end, although you have low gearing so your top end wont be so great. For jetting to be on the safe side i would go with 148.8, you should be safe down to at least -20F with those at around 800 ft.

8dn10 empty with two engagement shims on stock spring. stock secondary spring with a 50/40 wrapped at 60 deg. 147.5 for mag and ctr 150 for pto. The clutching was turk's idea, I set up the same pipes on the same sled it has a studded ripsaw with smalled drivers, the sled flies.

I have the 8dn10 empty with a slightly different helix.
The 8dn10 are suppose to be good for top end but there are better for excelleration but loose on top end.

I run heavy hitters on my srx, I think they work great.

those will run with 146.3's all day if you didn't take a piece of gasket out, other than that the 147'5's will do, 47.5 pilots at 2.5 turns. change the nozzle in the pto cylinder from a Q8 to a Q4 like the other 2.
we ran 50 gram polaris weights, Goodwin white in the primary, 48-42 or 40 depending on the drivers eating habits, green secondary 6-2, 40-22 in the case.

was that on WOT runs though, when you are actually in the main jet circuit? If you were just tooling around and not in the mains you won't know if that circuit is lean or not. You may only know the midrange is too lean, etc... Gotta do mid-throttle checks for midrange and WOT pulls a few hundred feet long for mains, then check plugs and piston wash.

WOW That is rich. Did you change the needles for the mid range.
I cant see it needing to my that rich and all the pro's I have spoken to say 147.5 are good to -30cel.
I will really need to look at my wash closely.
How did you make the check. WOT for 1/4 mile and hit kill switch or did you drive back to the shop.

Hey Pat that was at -30cel outside...if that is the case then you are right to go up on mains.
-30 with the 147.5 would be at the edge.
At -30 I dont ride and stay indoors. I think I will be ok there but will keep a close eye. I am worried about pilots and needles for me.
Can you let me know what the plugs look like at bootom end hit the kill switch and look att he plugs.
I think I will go to 50 for pilots.

ya i'm a lil bit more stubborn and ride all the way down to -35..after that its a lil nippy and the sled doesn't like it so i dont go...i'll get a vid clip like, now, and i'll grab a helmet, warm up the sled, go play around on break for 15mins just on bottom end, and i'll take pics for ya if you want
