this is a non-sled related post, but i know there are a lot of great auto body guys on here and i had a question or two since i've never done this before (its a project, a small one at that) i am rebuilding a honda 3-wheeler for a good friend and i want to paint the plastics candy orange. now i know that i risk cracking and such, but the way it looks now, even with the cracks it will look better. anyways, i want to paint the plastics candy orange and a) i would like to know the process of steps to prep and then paint it and b) where can i get some candy orange paint? i've researched a bit so i'm thinking i buy the concentrate and mix it with ...? and i know i have to add a flex additive (how much tho?) and also i think i've overheard sayin to use a self-etching primer. so any help would be greatly appreciated!!! tryin to tackle this one before xmas (haha, since it is a gift !!!) thanks guys!!!

use some dupont flexar flex agent and you may actually find that it won't crack. The dupont guy can tell you how much to use, they were great with us. That stuff isn't cheap though!

You could start by scuffing with a grey scotchbrite pad, and some degreaser as lubricant. Most paint companies have a adhesion promoter for plastic, spray the plastics with promoter, let dry for amount specified. Now if you wanted, you could spray a couple coats of flexible primer surfacer to remove any minor scratchs, let dry and sand them out with 400 grit sandpaper, or you could proceed with your flexibilized basecoat and clear coat if primer isnt required. Follow the recomendations on the flex agent. Your paint rep will be able to answer any question you may have. I use PPG exclusively, but most paint companies use similar procedures. Good luck, this wont be cheap.

use a complete refinish system ie: all dupont, sikkens, ppg, ect.. do not piece meal products together. tell the mfg rep what you are trying to do, and let them give you their steps for proper adhesion and recomend their products for your particular application. ski

thanks guys for all the feedback and info!!! i'll post pics and what not as i come along. got my last dang final for college today and then its home to the garage!!! (oh, i guess the girlfriend wanted to go out sometime too, guess i'll have to fit that in as well)
