60 or 70 works.if your trail riding 60 or if in deep snow 70.

if the backshift isn't good enough at 60*, like it doesn't rev up quick enough when you stab it coming out of a corner, go to 70*.
According to the tech pages stock setting is 70 degrees... Is stock setting 60 or 70 degrees? I have the same helix. I am an agresive trail rider. Should I do 70 degrees? Is 70 the best all around setting ?

you want the lightest preload possible without causing an overshift or poor backshift. So basically: use JUST enough wrap to make your backshift acceptable for you, that is the best the secondary can be in a given setup.

So how much twist should there be?? Seems like I twisted it pretty good when putting the heilx on, was a struggle.....did I twist too much??

OK, I just double checked...my helix is set at 70 degrees
I have the same setup with a 60 wrap. I finally got a chance to take it out today and she really pulled hard. I have stock rivets too.

Took mine out for a try this morning....seemed to pull good, not enough room around the house to really open it up though.
I still have the stock weights in also. Will have to try it out with this set up...i did get the 4.5 gram rivots to put in the inner holes if needed.

Well I had mine out yesterday. I have it wrapped at 70 degrees. I couldn't pull more then 8000 RPMS. I should be pulling 8,400-8,500rpms. It seemed to pull hard and back shift was awesome. Just no top end. I am going to change the spring setting to 60 degrees and see what happends.
NBviper, by going to less twist, you will see yet lower rpm's, not higher. Dont get into the habit of tuning rpm's with the secondary clutch, thats not how you do it, youll be shooting yourself in the foot in the long run. The primary clutch controls your rpm, the secondary mearly controls the shift. what do you have in the primary clutch as far as weights and spring? is the sled bone stock? how long of a run are we talking about that your only getting 8000rpm?
I sled is stock with the exception of a 4.5 gram rivet in the tip and the tourque limiter that I added last year and with the stock helix it ran real good at 8400-8500rpms. This year I added the 54/43 helix and green spring and now I can only get 8,000rpms in very loose conditions though. I don't know if that plays apart. It seems to almost bog a bit when I punch it hard. The track spins like crazy though. The engine is loaded good now. Thats for sure. I only did about 16kms. Should I wait and try it in some better conditions. The rpms seemed to bounce from 7,800rpm to 8,000 and back to 7,800 and back to 8,000rpms. Is the secondary to tight and not letting it shift fully out? Any ideas?

I have a stock 03 with the limiter also, 53/43 and the green spring at a 60 wrap. She pulled great all the way though. I would wait for a longer run, better snow before you changed somthing. Setup is real important. All Vipers are not the same. Good luck.
What does yours rev at when you punch it?

It seems that blueblooded had the same problem, The Bog /low rpm's ect..My 2002 viper rev's around 8700 rpm's on a old snowtech arcticle they said a stock viper should pull from 8600 to 8700 rpm's to take advantage of the power curve.
Im a little worried that by changing my helix and springs incl a heelclicker set that i wont get up to the desirable peak rpm's. Since im already pulling 8600 to 8700.
Do a search on blueblooded post maybe it will help you out

I was always told that it would run better when clutched at 8,400rpms with a single pipe. Mine ran at 8,700rpms before I added the 4.5gram tip weight. It was a lot faster after I added more weight. I need to get out and try this thing some more. This rain is not helping at all. Ironically the person that had my helix and spring installed in their sled had bad over rev problems. Mine under revs.. ha-ha.
The tip weight of 4.5 gr. seems a little heavy if you want corner to corner acceleration.
My sled is at 8400 @ 72 mph, 8500 @ 82 mph and 8600 at 92 mph with no bog. All stock rivets. I have the 4.5 to add if need? I have a 60 wrap on the green spring. She pulls real smooth all the way through. I bought the helix that blueblooded had from his 04 viper. It seems to work good for me? I also have the tourqe limiter on and the sled is set up to spec. The top end is rip your arms off fast. Every viper is a little different I hear?
