Any suspension combo's proven to be the ticket?

Rode a buddy's 800 ski doo legend and man that suspension is FAR better then my 02 viper (non-updated shocks).

Anyone have a reccomendation they have found to be perfect?

1> Is a revalve going to be as good as a expertX or M10?
2> Are there cheaper rear skids that drop in to place without too much modification?
3> Front shocks do Ohlins make a big difference? Are fox floats avail for our sleds yet?

Obvisouly price is a small restriction, but not if it really makes the sled drive nice. Just hoping to find some experts out there that have riden a few combinations and sort of know what works, no need for me to be a pioneer.

Type of riding is aggressive groomed trail and ditch banging. Thanks!

Yes. Used cat skids seem to be a popular choice, as well as used mono skids.

Yes, ohlins make a huge difference. I believe fox floats are available as well.


These topic have already been covered here on ty, so do some searching and you'll find some more detailed info.
 
a used ski doo or polaris skid is under $400 and is easy to drop in. that would be your best option and give a better ride than anything you could ever do to your pro action.
 
What year model do you reccomend? Any special ones that offer good shocks, etc? I weigh about 225 and ride aggressive in the ditches always jumping, and hard on the groomed trails in the twistys. thanks!

i personally like the polaris edge chassis suspension. rides good and has a lot of adjustment avaliable to suit any riding style. the sc10 III is also very nice, i have rode one, but dont know much about them other than they ride good and suck up the bumps good. i really dont like the cat skids, i dont think they ride all that great, they oval out rail holes too much and there is always too much weight transfer making cornering crappy. mounting a edge suspension is also easy. here are the measurements and if you need help finding one, let me know and ill try to help.

that looks like an edge suspension, not a pro x, but that had a coil over rear shock and a 4 wheel kit, so i really dont know. i would stay away from it! the pro x's had ryde fx or walker evans clickers. the 03 - 04 pro x had the good suspension if you ride hard. the 02 was really hard and had problems. i wouldnt pay more than $400 for a used one. there is a new edge suspension for $500 obo on hardcoresledder, i would offer $400 shipped on that one.

i put ohlins clickers in the front of my '02 viper and it really sucks the bumps up much better, but i have noticed that it slightly nosedives into corners more than the stock ones-- i've only put on about 25 miles with them though, and haven't had the chance to play with em yet. i'm thinking i may have to tighten the spring preload on them, and try increasing the comp. adjustment. now with the rear susp.-- i put an ohlins clicker in the rear with a spring that's for my weight, and had the center shock rebuilt/ revalved for my weight by pioneer to save a few bucks and WOW--what a difference- it just floats through the bumps!

Which shock did you use in the rear? Compression adjustable only or compression/rebound adjustable? I'm thinking about doing exactly what you did as I have a set of front Ohlins on the way, and already have the rears revalved by Pioneer. We ride some stuff that is just crazy ROUGH and it does pretty good, but it still seems a little hard. I can hang right with my REV buddy, I just work harder and take a bigger beating! I heard the Ohlins in the rear was to stiff unless you ride the crap out of it?

compression only- i believe it's a 36pc. the spring it came with was for riders 185 lbs. and up. i'm only 160 so i got the next size down from pioneer. i don't know about being too stiff- this thing is night and day compared to the stock updated kyb's-- for the whole 25 miles i've put on them around the neighborhood!(which is pretty bumpy!) haven't had a chance to giv'er a good high speed thrashing yet- still waiting for more snow up north.

soft spring #180-82/3.8 (ohlins #)

firm spring #180-87/45 (ohlins #)
 
Millinocket, do those have high speed as well as low speed compression adjustablity? If so, increase the low speed compression dampening, that will improve the dive in the corners. "speed" refers to the shock shaft speed. Hitting a mogul hard and quick is fast speed, rollers are low speed, etc.

holic-- no, there's just one comp. adjustment on them-- i think they're the same ones that come on a vip S. you think increasing spring preload will help? or maybe a different sway bar?
 
increasing the preload might help but it will also raise your CG and increase ski pressure.
