I have a 98 700 srx. it starts hard and also fouls plug on pto cylinder all the time. if I start it and chahge the foul plug, and then ride it all day it is fine. but if I start it and say load it in the trailer, then restart it. it is all over, start replaceing plugs. can any one help.
ok, a few simple questions to try and narrow down the problem:
(1.)does the sled run ngk br9ecs plugs? the reason I ask is the 98's came with a 10 heat range plug and it was simply too cold, easy fouling.
(2.) when you start the sled what is your procedure, like choke to full on, then when it starts you are feathering the gas??, or flipping off the choke, or???
(3.) have you ever had the carb rack off the sled and cleaned the carbs removing the fuel screws in the bottom of the throat of the carb?
post the answers and we can solve your problem from those most likely

I am using br9es plugs and yes I have used br9ecs. I switched to the br9es for the fact I was sick of spending high dollar on the other ones. I choke it, until it starts then remove the choke, then let it warm up for a 30 seconds and slowly start driving it until it is warmed up to full temperature. I have tried leaving the choke on longer, shorter. I tried it all. I replace the caps with new ngk. No I have not had the carbs off and cleaned. I have replace one power valve and cable for the center cylinder and adjusted to I believe .080 thousandths. It just started doning it last winter. Thanks

30 sec isnt enough running time to be getting on it and hitting the throttle, that is probably why you are fouling plugs. Yammy triples are very susceptible to plug fouling if you don't let them warm up long enough. Defianately should get in there and clean those carbs as well, probably have a plugged pilot jet.
Let it warm up before you EVER touch the gas
well, its most likely just not warmed up enuff like someone said. You have to start these beast and then shut off the choke, sometimes when cold, you need to stand there for 30 secs or so and just blip the choke to the first setting, then off, until the sled will idle on its own, THEN, go put on your gear, let the sled warm up for at least a few MINUTES(4-5 more like it), 30 seconds is no where long enuff!! You can cold seize a sled by running it too early, you need to warm it up so the coolant is luke warm in the exchangers, this insures the sled doesnt get a big dose of ice cold coolant when the thermostat opens up. A very simple way to check is after putting on your gear, simply put your hand on the side of the cylinder, it shouldnt be cool to the touch, but a rather nice warm cozy feel, if its cool, it aint warmed up enuff, have some patience.
Reason i asked about if you ever had the carbs off or not is beacuse it may be as simple as someone before you who had the sled does not have the fuel screws adjusted correctly and it is rich in the low speed circuit.
The plugs you have are the correct heat range and as long as you dont do extended lake racing, WOT for a 1/2 mile or so youd be ok. if your gonna do long WOT runs, you may want to get some br9ecs for that.

I have tried to let it warm up, but it will stall and not restart and I then find the plugs foul out, all of them! When it is cold it will not idle very long with or with out the choke. I will goafter the carbs and clean them. I just donot want to and have been putting it off. I like to think I don't have to work on my yamaha like others I known with other brands. Just I little something, I talked to a owner of a 05 worrier with 9000 miles in one year and only replaced a boggie wheel. asked if he was going to get new one? he said not till warrenty was up next year!

Have the dealer check the cables that regulate the oil going into the cylinder... A friend of mine has the exact same issue and the cables are sticking and thus putting in too much oil and therefor fouling plugs.
