$80. I heat my home almost exclusively with a wood-burning stove.

From $131 to $203. This next month could be even more. We refuse to be uncomfortable although putting on a sweat shirt wouldn't hurt either.
What we need to include is the size of the house. Our house is 1300 ft2. I have a friend with a 4800 ft2 house and he anticipates well over $600. Just helps to put things into prospective.

My house is 2700 sqft with 1 furnace @ 67-69 degrees, and my garage is 2640 sqft with a boiler for floor heat kept @ 60 degrees. This is natural gas also.

I have a 20x40 garage with gycol heated flooring and it cost around 100-120 a month and the temp is at 12 degrees celcius
Get rid of the gas and go to an electric off-peak system from Steffes. It is an electric thermal storage unit that charges during off-peak hours. It costs us about $600-650 per year to heat and cool our home (2x6 construction) in central Wisconsin which is $50-75 per month even at the coldest in the winter or warmest in the summer. House is 3,800 sqft with basement. We also have an off-peak electric Marathon water heater that charges off-peak also. The beauty of this system is that we are being charged off-peak rates ($0.032/KWhr or half the rate) for the entire house during off-peak which includes all day Saturday and Sunday when we use more power. Take a look at the systems and I think you will like what you see

Mills - That's a very interesting conecpt. What is the up front cost for a typical size furnace? What are the drawbacks, if any?

Stupid gas conpany here says they are not making enough profit since people have reduced the temps in their houses so they have to raise prices even higher.

I'm through about 300$ in propane since mid october (200gallons) with a 3100sq^ft house. Adding off-peak electric grid to my furnace next year. (ran out of time/money this year building my house)
