97 600 SX Stock pipes

My brother has a 97 600 SX Twin. He has blown two stockpipes. What next? Stock or aftermarket? Should he be wraping the pipes with header wrap?

My friend has a 96 mtn max 600 twin and wanted to get it piped but, the dealer talked him out of it saying they do more bad then good.I think it had to do with the smart carbs or somthing.. hope that helps
