hey i have a 94 v max 600 that i just rebuilt from the crank up with a good used crank a good used cylinder and new piston on one side. It had a cooked piston and snapped a rod on one side. I rode it for the first time this winter tonight and it runs like crap power is comparable to my 89 phazer maybe i'm asking too much from this sled than i expected but i still think there should be some more pull in that thing this is my 8th yamaha motor rebuild done 2 srx'x 5 phazers and now this vmax so i'm not a newbie when it comes to working on these things i know it all went back together properly . Just want to know if these things are really testy motors or how snappy they were supposed to be. maybe some specific carb adjustments i need to do dunno any help would be great.
Gotta know what rpm,s are & if clutches are in good shape. Not even close to enuff info to make a good guess!

clutches are in good shape problem seems to be in the motor even on 2 cylinders it feels like it's running on one dunno what kind of rpms this thing is supposed to run so wasn't even paying close attention, motor just seems to sound and feel rough like the feeling you get when it's only running on one cylinder but it is running on both, what kind of revs is this thing suppose to climb to? when i rebuilt it it was gonna be just a machine to screw around with so i took a dremel tool and took a bunch of material out of where the reed cage sits i also smoothed out the exhaust ports did not make them any bigger or change their shape though only removed material farther back behind the cut openings i'm thinking this is probably what screwed it up
Do a compression & leakdown test. You got probs if clutches & carbs are in good shape!

think the grinding could have screwed the airflow or something like that somehow

I don't know but that's what all our vm's are testing out at and with the stock head gaskets too. I just did intense testing on all our machines including leak down tests and they passed with flying colors.
