bought a new nytro, lots of ski lift & plowing, hope to be able to adjust this out. I have 350 miles on it and have already ruined the plastic suspension wheels & hifax with good snow cover. also threw about 30 pics, dealer installed. 1.25" track - 1.375" woody's gold diggers, thought they were the best. A friends new sled also had the same problems. lots of hood damage due to flying pics. It already looks worse than my 2000 sxr. It's going to be an expensive season at this rate. Maybe i should have bought 600 mxz instead.
Anybody else having this much fun?

Yeah , I think I would just get rid of the piece of junk!! But it does sound a little funny that you both had the same problems, must be two pieces of JUNK!! :ORC

Give ya $5000 for the NYTRO( I like Junk)

Go over to www.rx1.info and sign up. There is alot more info and knowledge on that sled there.

The idler wheels are a known problem on the 06's (dealer should take care of it), also what do you mean by your hyfax are ruined.

Thanks for the info 98srx6. The hi-fax are worn just about to the wear indicaters.
it just seems excessive for 350 miles. I'm not real concerned about the handling yet, i 'm just hoping i can adjust the suspension to the point where it will corner.
I guess the pics are the main concern. Factory defect or is this a problem with 1.25" tracks with pics ? By the way, its not abuse my 2000 was ridden harder and it still looks & runs like new.

Dan, The crack about the MXZ600 was'nt the best way to start out with a website that has 90% Yamaha owners!
The people on this site don't care what brand you ride , they are able and willing to help you solve just about any issue that you have.

Excessive hyfax wear and throwing studs usually depicts poor riding conditions! Where where you riding and what do you consider 'good snow cover'?

Poor cornering and excessive hyfax wear, could be caused by to much pressure on the front of your sliderails. Shorten the limiter strap or soften the middle shock spring to give you better ski pressure.

As far as the studs, why do you think the sled or the studs are cause of you throwing them? Sounds to me like poor installation or again, bad conditions!
Good Luck

Before you jump on this guy I can vouch for wheels and slide problems. My Apex GT has 175 miles and 2 wheels blew apart and the hyfax is shot. If that is the only problems I will be extremely happy with the sled though. I ordered Maxximum Performances oversized wheel kit. Done. Should replace the crappy wheels and hyfax problem in 1 swoop. It's a fairly cheap fix (130) to fix and be happy with your sled. If that doesn't make you happy there may be some underlying problem you aren't telling us.

i agree with sno-xr, most of those problems sound like symptoms of poor riding conditions

As far as the studs pulling through, you said you only put in 30? I would put in atleast 96 to take the preasure over a greater number of studs.
Imagine your housecat trying to climb a tree with only 1 claw, do you think it would hold the cat, or break off?

The dealer installed 96 pics with double backers, none pulled through they all snapped off, same with my friends yamaha. That is not a yamaha problem. My other friends mxz only bent 1 of 96 pics on the same 2 day ride with a 8" to 12"
snow base. We are all using wood's gold diggers. This is my 3rd yamaha, i think they build a great sled. It was just frustrating to do that much damage to a new machine the first trip out.
I JUST HAD TO VENT!

Big problems here that no one adressed.

First of all, the ripsaw track that comes with the Nytro is an awsome track, EXCEPT, every thrird window is closed, and all the windows are narrower than regular tracks. This all equals less lubrication for the sliders and increases slider wear. With my old track, never had a sticking problem, but with the new ripsaw, sticks liek crazy, and my dads new RSVenture TF goes through sliders like theyre going out of style. 3 sets in a season, and we do as much as we can to keep them from sticking liek stopping al the time to throw snow on them and we do maintain them meticulously and always to spec. When I talked with Camoplast, theyre reason for the 3 window closed and narrower windows was for more floatation. Personally, I could live with the minimal floataion gains and enjoy the better slider wear rate and lighter track weight.

Secondly, 96 studs is not even close enough for that sled, its a joke to think that it is enough. Maybe, just maybe with a regular two stroke 600 Vmax triple that isnt ridden very hard and aggresively and just needing the extra traction would be ok with 96, but 96 on a Nytro is ridiculous. It needs more like 144, mostly due to all that torque it produces. My sled is a 485 fan, with 108 1.325" woodys stainless studs and when I wind er up on the trails and the lake, it still spins and on bare ice, spins like crazy, and this is following woodys 136" track template. This is ok by me but im seriously considering adding more studs next year, and this is only a 500 fan making roughly half the horsepower of the Nytro and same track, but with more studs!

I agree what ejcamaro said about the cat claw thing, it is just what I said above^^. There isnt enought studs to share the load. If your track isnt already wrecked, put more studs in it and if it is wrecked, either replace it or use it without studs.

Thanks for the info. The mechanic who set it up is a snow x driver. He said this is the way they set their sleds up. Again, no problem with mxz 600, just the shorter pics?

The only time that there are conditions remotely like hardpack(never ice) on a sno-x track is the first 3 or 4 heat races in the morning(very cold mornings). After that its so lose that its actually tuff (tough) to walk on, so the studs have very little force put on them.
Again, good luck with the issues.

I believe there are rules that must be followed regarding the use of studs in snowcross, maybe the limit is 96...The reason that camoplast uses the every third window pattern is not for better floatation...On nearly all Yamaha's, hyfax wears very quickly to the wear line and then stops.

loosen the track. dads 05 vector has a year on it and the hyfax looked new. dealer setup is fantastic where we get our sleds though, they set it up a bit loose from the get-go. good luck, and some adjustment (dealer setup again) would make that sled hadle great. there is no reason for push etc.

Standard nuts, My friend talked to the mechanic today, it sounds like yamaha will take care of the suspension issues, perhaps last years narrower idlers or more of them. Sounds like they recommend less air pressure in in the float shocks and a heavier stablilizer bar to eliminate the ski lift, not sure what this will do for the pushing issue. He is going to talk to woody's also, sounds like there has been a few issues with the snapped pics. It sounds as though the mechanic isnt going to be happy until he gets this resolved on all counts. It's a little unusual these days to find someone that determined to take care of the customer.

glad to hear things sounding like they will be fixed/resolved. its why I love my dealer, they take care of me like that always. best thing ever is having a great dealer
