Hi guys !

Took my SRX for a 1.st christmas day ride today, together with my friend on an RS Vector Mountain.

I`ve read that you should let the SRX idle for quite a while before taking off.
I normally don`t like doing that with two strokes, but I tried it and it didn`t seem like it had to clear out alot of oil when I took off, so I figured it was OK to do as I was told.

When I take off from my house I have to ride a quite curly/tight woods trail so I ride quite slow. There is little snow so you have to take extra care not to hit shit hiding under the snow. When I came to the first real open space and I hit the throttle the plug on cylinder nr. 3. fouled, (the one near the exhaust pipes).

The two other plugs looked good, chocolate brown, maybe a little dark but I had been riding very slowly.
I changed the fouled plug and she ran just fine for the rest of the ride.

When we get more snow , which means faster riding I figure this wount be a problem, but I`m just curious... .

When I get my package from rich I will clean the power valves, could a bad-functioning PV cause a fouled plug?. (just curious).

I think I read somewhere that one of the carbs on the SRX has a larger jet, am I wrong?. I`m just thinking that since the pipes lies so close to the cylinder that maybe that cylinder runs richer in order to compensate for the extra need of lubrication ?. I might be way off track here but... you know, I`m just curious:).

I can shoot pics of the fouled plug if you want.. .

Here`s the first pic of me on my new sled.

How long did you let the sled idle? I had the same thing happen to my SRX right after I bought it. Took it out for the 1st time and didn't let it warm up long enough, was going slow then gave it some gas! result=fouled plug. I let it warm up longer now and haven't experienced the problem since. my .02 I usually let mine warm up for 5 minutes or so.

also...one more trick...if i know I'm doing some trail twiaties...and especially on a warmer day...when I KNOW FOR SURE I wont be holding the throttle open....I will go to a br9es plug or even an 8.....although yammie doesnt recommend this cause they're afraid some yahoo will get on a lake and pin it for the length of the lake..

Ok guys thanks for the replys! :).
Shortstop20, I had been riding for 20 minutes when the plug fouled, so it didn`t have anything to do with the warm up.
The sled normally starts on 3rd pull, and when it starts I imediately go over to halv choke and only seconds later I turn the choke completely off, if it stumbles then I just blip the choke carefully, but normally it isn`t necessary.

My previous sled was an RX-1, so having to wait for ages before I can take off is somewhat annoying, but I try to let it idle for about 1-2 minutes before I touch the throttle. Then I take off easily, not rewing over 4500-5000rpm and then I ride a couple of kilometers before I start to open her up.
I`ve had two other two stroke sleds before, a 96`V-Max 600 XT and a 83`V-Max 540 with a Rotax 583 engine, they never fouled a single plug, and I didn`t let them idle for more then 20-30 seconds before I took off.

But, I don`t think it will foul plugs when the conditions get`s better and you can ride harder, however, I don`t like ride faster then I want to just because I have to clear out the excessive oil in the cylinders, reminds me off my first dirtbike, a 93`KX 125, it ran like hell but once you let off the throttle and didn`t rew it for a minute or so, you were in the plug-fouling area.

I hope it wount foul lot`s of plugs because those damn ECS plugs are so expensive.

:).

srx's are jetted rich...and they like the rich jetting better than lean which is opposite of most sleds....so if you dont run her hard you can drop the needle half a position which which would clean the 1/4 to 3/4 area up yet keep full throttle fuel the same or first just try my idea of the br8es's and stay out of the 3/4+ throttle area

You should take into consideration the previous owners' air box mods before rejetting. What I would do first is to check what jets that actually are in your sled.

my recommendations are based on a stock machine...especially the airbox...
if the airbox has been modded...ala benders...you should check to make sure your machine is jetted in accordance with their jetting specs...
then...and if the powervalves are functioning properly...needle adjusment..
but yes...check those valves..

Ok guys! Thanks for the replys.

If it continues to foul plugs I will drop the needle and maybe turn the air/gas screw a little out?. The air/gas screw doesn`t affect the engine at high rpm, atleast not from what I`ve learned.

I don`t think the previous owner did any "modifications" to the air box, he only removed the "plate" with the three holes in.. .

Maybe I should remove the air box and re install the plate with the holes in, and also remove the carbs and clean them, for all I know the might be some dirt in the air jet or something.. .

I bet the jets are stock, but I don`t know.

Will check the PW`s as soon as get my package from Rich.

Gees guys, I just spoke to a friend that rides a 1996 Lynx 670 Rave. His father had been reparing something on his sled and accidently forgot to connect the wires to the low oil light warning light. Yesterday he ran out of oil without knowing it and you can figure out the rest yourselves.

:)

Oh, they ain`t?. I thought they were !!.

I think I`ve seen many SRX`s with those holes?.

Just to be sure here. Dash= right under the gauges. Those holes are not stock.
