srx making bad noises

at low speed there is i guess you would say its a clunking sound, left side. significantly more pronounced when turning left. can only hear it at low speed.. (less engine noise), i pulled off the secondary and speedo housing (speedo stopped working last season). the bearing is there and is not trashed at least that i can see..... what are my next steps or what do you guys think it may be? bearings? :o|
 
try the the torque rod allen bolt right behind the primary clutch.this backed out on both my srx's & it shattered one of the clutchs actually.
 
i had s simular problem a few days ago could only hear a clunking when i turned. it was the lower mount for the shock. one of the bolts backed out and the other broke. it was siting oon the drive teeth and sounded like it was either the clucth or chaincase. just take a look if its not that its prolly a burnt spot in ur belt
 
ya, need a driveshaft bearing minimum

one thing is you overlooked the common clue, the speedo stopped working, this is due to the bearing on the driveshaft becoming worn and starts to wobble, this shears off the fragile speedo drive pin. The noise you hear will become more pronounced and will eat the entire chaincase assembly up in time, you need to remove the driveshaft bearing on the pto side, I have never ever been able to see one trashed by looking at it, its when you take it off the driveshaft that the bearing will show its true wear, will be all bumpy feeling. Another thing is when you have tension on the track, you cant feel any play in the bearing. When you turn left you apply more pressure to the bearing, trying to make it work harder and thats why its louder. Just going off your information posted.
 
thanks mrviper. thats what i was thinking exactly, i just like to be sure on things before i go diving in.. now secondly what the easiest way to get these bearings out? drop rear skid and pull the shaft? First time doing this kind of thing any pointers would be appreciated. thanks again every one...
 
if you have caught the bearing in time and it hasnt taken out the rest of the stuff running with it, its as easy as taking the tension off the track, removing the speedo drive assembly(3nuts), loosen up 2 set screws in collar of bearing on inside of tunnel, and taking it out. Slip in the new one and reverse order of dissassembly. Sometimes you have to lightly tap out the old one from inside with a punch on the collar end. It also makes life easier if you clean up the driveshaft surface with some 600 grit paper and smear a tad of anti seize on it before slippin on your new bearing.
