Well, as of today, with 12 000 miles showing, I blew a piston on the SX.
I was riding with a buddy which had his 670 MXZ, we were cruising along the lake, all of a sudden his MXZ comes to a stop, I circle around, and laugh at his broke down sled. We pop a plug off and find out that it's all full of chunks of aluminum on there. So I bust out the tow rope, and pull him about 1 mile down the lake (it was slushy, and a mild day, few degrees above freezing anyways.), but the Exciter just didn't make it. Just died on me.
So, 2 machines blown in one day.
I doubt it will be worth sinking more money into my Exciter, A part of me wants to fix it, yet a part of me wants to just part it out...
The "damage" doesn't look bad, It's the mag. side piston that went. This thing was all original, so it was bound to happen. It wasn't running lean, the plugs have a nice dark brown colour to them, but you can see chuncks of alum. on that mag. side plug... I will tear into it tomorrow.
Now the SX has special cylinders, with Nikasil, and different pistons, I am sure yamaha will want a good 1000-1500 for parts only. (gaskets, pistons, rings...ect) So, I dunno, I guess I will make sure I am sitting down when calling the dealer for a quote. heh

If anyone has some rebuild tips for the Exciters, I am all ears, I am told to stay away from Wisecos for the SX?...
Thanks.
