The power wire that runs from the bottom of the starter is loose on our 1998 VMAX XT 600. I tried reaching down there, but there is not a lot of room to do much of anything especially since I do not know how it is hooked up. Can anyone tell my how the wire is hooked up and what is the easiest way to tighten it back up? Thanks.

The wire has a round terminal on the end of it and is held on with a nut (10mm wrench); it has a rubber boot over it. The terminal and stud/nut sit in a hole in the cross member. It's easiest to pull the exhaust pipe off; remove the 2 front engine mount bolts and lift the front of the motor up 3/4 of an inch. Then you can remove the starter bolts, rotate the starter, and tighten the starter wire nut. It's not as bad as it sounds.

Well Greg we made an attempt at it this weekend as the wire came completely off the stud. We were able to remove the pipe and the 2 bolts on the outside of the starter but the starter does not move at all. Do we have to remove the 2 front engine mount bolts? The starter will not budge, is there another bolt that we are missing. Thank you for the help.

Remove the 2 bolts from the front mounts and lift the front of the motor up 3/4". I just put small pieces of wood between the upper and lower mounts. There should be 3 bolts holding the starter on. 1 bolt at the top/rear of the starter and 2 at the front of the starter(clutch side). The bottom bolt on the front/clutch side is tricky to get at. I used a flexible socket and that made it much easier.
Hope this helps,
Greg
