OK, where in Northern Minnesota, I want to watch
I've Run short strips of open water in a shallow pond in the fall, The front wants stay WAY up in the air and isn't very stable. My Phazer II works great though. (skinny ski stance turns nice on water, I never tryied to turn my sx-r)

Who wants to watch?
There will be no watching, just wish someone knew the answer to this question, I can't understand why or what causes these sleds and not the others to not go across water. The area I ride in sometimes requires an occassional illegal splash.
Crosslake, MN
14 lakes connected, lots of flowing water!!
Anyone have any ideas??????

They don't like water because when you start crossing, water gets splashed onto the clutches, belt starts slipping, and you get to start swimming. Don't know all of the particulars but I have heard people say to lay a shop light under the belly pan of the sled, turn out all the lights in the garage, and then cauck anywhere you see light coming through from the top side. Have also heard people say to tape off the bottom set of vents in the front of the belly pan as well. Good luck!

I can tell you first hand that the sxrs do not float! I was on a 6 day trip at the begining of march when it started to rain, by the time we got back towards North Bay there were some spots on the trail that were totally submerged in water. When I got into it the water sprayed onto my clutch and caused it to slip to the point of not moving anymore, luckily i was going fast enough that I almost made it across, just within towing distance of my buddy on his "sea doo" to tow me out, what an emmbarasment. For the rest of the ride I had to break trail around all the water and watch my buddy on his skidoo blast through it
I was just lucky it didnt happen on one of the river crossings that had opened up before i had this problem! When i looked under the hood imediately after the belly pan was completely filled with water. I guess its time to get out the caulking gun and fill every hole in sight!!

What about Srx? Anyone tryed driving them on water? Cause its raining here today
Would be nice to know, cause the water is little too cold to swim in yet.

When i put on quickrods on my sxr 500 it got a lot better, i had them set at max transfer, anyone else tried this?

We do some river riding and cross alot of open water at times. The Cats seem to cross easily, but my SRX doesn't like the water. Short open sections I will cross but most of the time I'll try to go around. I have tried long stretches and the front end starts slapping the water and about then water sprays in on the belt and if you don't have alot of momentum you're gonna swim.

i waterskip my 98msrx and love it, jus silicon the tunnel on it and away i went, i also have a 141 2inch track to help me out. my buddy skipped his 02 mm when it was a 141 he put a mountain performance weight transfer rod elimination kit in it and it danced on water. im talking rear wheel stands with the skis straight up. we love the h20 and aint afraid of turning either. you guys and gals should check out strubmotorsports.com you'll like what you see
and one more thing lake vermillion is where its at when the river from the boundary waters opens up the ice

We've got an 01 SXR600 and an 01 SRX. We ride the river and skimming water is a way of life around here. Everybody does it. Both ride the water o.k. until the clutches get wet. This year we siliconed (blue of course) where the left side panel meets the aluminum part of the frame. This seems to keep the water out the times I skimmed this year. I did see some water under the engine but, none in the clutch compartment. I nearly sank on the second of two in a row open spots on the river last year and don't want to go swimming.
Good luck

clutches do get wet easy on the sx. lookat my videos. i have lots of experience with it. if you hit the water at 60 or above though and it isnt choppy you can go forever. only times when i have a prob is trying to bounce it, starting at low low speeds and of course choppy water. the only way you can turn is by leaning. and you cant turn much you the clutches get soaked. thats my .02.

my buddy with his mm got really brave and would go to the waters edge dip his skis in then take off, he'd sometimes got to far and sink but tip it on its side pull the plugs then pull it over till only gas was coming out then dry the plugs and fire it up
