SRX with gas in oil res.

Hi,
New to the site, went out to start my SRX last night, checked the oil tank and it was full, I knew it should be down some from my last ride, stuck my finger in the tank and it was full of gas and oil. Drained the tank and put in fresh oil, but what the hell could cause this! It is in a locked garage, so no one pulled a prank. How could gas back feed into the oil res? HELP!
 
bad fuelpump, and the little one way check valves in oil lines.
 
Check Valves Are In The Oil Line, They Are Silver Colored And By The Fuelpump, You Wil See A Little Arrow On Them For Direction Of Flow
 
Is this what you would suspect first, how could the fuel pump feed oil into the tank? The check valves seem logical, but I will take any advice. Thanks
 
because the oil is mixed with the gas in the fuelpump in the mixing chamber, if the pump gets a leak inside and check valves are bad, it pumps some of the gas into the oilines. check valves would probally be the first thing, then the pump.

Because of this thread I checked mine. I also have a strong smell of gas in my oil tank. I can't see the oil pump, how much disassembly is needed to replace the check valve? Is this a dealer stocked item?? The yamaha book online says I need two valves, I'm not sure where the second one goes.
 
there is a yamaha service bulletin on this, 2000 tech update book, page 3-13, maybe you could have your dealer copy it for you guys, I cant type that well....

one of the valves is right by the fuelpump, just take out the airbox and youll see it,other is on the line below by the oilpump, arrow on them is direction of oilflow.
 
Ok, here's what you guys are looking for. Info out of the tech update book.

Symptom
The unit does not appear to use much oil. The oil in the oil tank is diluted with gasoline.

Remedy
A one-way check valve is located in the main oil line that goes from the oil injection pump to the fuel pump and is directional. If this valve fails for any reason, fuel can flow back through the system and fill the oil tank. Replace the check valve is there is any question of its working properly.

Note
Make sure oil lines and tank are clear of any debris that can clog the check valve. Also, if the unit is transported or stored with the back of the unit elevated it is recommended that an accessory shut-off valve (P/N: SMA-VALVE-00-00) be installed. Both of the vents for the fuel tank and oil tank should be checked.
 
havent seen the other cause, if you have a pinched off fuel vent line it will push past the check valve. if this is it, it will cause a problem when you fill your tank full, park it down hill and let it sit. makes a mess. mine pushed the oil out the oil vent which is in the handlebars and ran over everything.
 
There appear to be two check valves, but one seems to be in a return line or something, and under the engine, do you just need to replace the one going to the fuel pump?
 
I pulled my airbix and carbs off tonight. The check valve between the fuel pump and oil pump was junk. I could blow thru it both ways and some GRN/WHT milky stuff came out. The line from the oil tank looks more like gas than oil since I could see thru it. The oil line the check valve was in was very transparent also and when I pulled it off the fuel pump pure fuel ran out of it. I think the pump has an internal leak also. I ordered a fuel pump and both check valves tonight. Thanx for the help, you guys probably just saved my motor.
 
I plan to drain the oil tank and blow out any lines when I get my new check valves and fuel pump and fill it with new oil. Is there any recommended bleeding/purging of the air in the lines once I get it together?? What is the breather bolt on the oil pump for??
 
Doesn't one of the lines run under the motor? How did you change that check valve? Going to do mine this weekend, just curious, did you have to pull the engine?
 
I have only pulled my carbs and airbox so far. That second hose seems to go from the top right of the oil pump to the bottom left of the motor, but I don't see the check valve. This must be the vacuum hose to run the pump. I haven't pulled that hose off yet. I think I can reach down there and pull the entire hose assembly off, maybe then I will see it. Those little black things on the end of the hose will slide back using a scewdriver, then the hose comes right off. I won't be easy, but I think it can be done. I don't want to pull the motor.
