I have a whizzing sound coming from chain case on 02 sxr 2900 miles. I just cleaned and added new oil in November. Today after 1st ride out it started whining and was hot, oil was level was good. Could it be that the chain tensioner is too tight? drove it about 40 miles like this but kept it around 40 mph, wondering if I hurt anything?? Any ideas? thanks
chain may be too tight. it should be finger tight only on the slack adjuster bolt. did you have the top and bottom spacers out? the spacers that are behind the gears?? if you got those mixed up it can cause the chain to make noises and do bad things.

You need to remove your cover and find out. Untill you do its all speculation.
