chain case question

I have a whizzing sound coming from chain case on 02 sxr 2900 miles. I just cleaned and added new oil in November. Today after 1st ride out it started whining and was hot, oil was level was good. Could it be that the chain tensioner is too tight? drove it about 40 miles like this but kept it around 40 mph, wondering if I hurt anything?? Any ideas? thanks

how tight is the chain? you should only tighten chain HANDTIGHT...even there, i put it till i feel pressure and back off a hair...then lock it down...it shouldn't have hurt anything, but check the dipstick for any filings...hope this helps

yep it sounds like you have it to tight.adjust it like blue said.it doesnt take much.

Thanks for the help. I agree my buddy over tighten, I re-adjusted it this morning and no noise.
