i have an ignition stator and rotor out of a 3-wheeler and it had been sitting for a long time. i would spring for a new setup (i got new points and coils) but its a budget build. the thing is that they were both rusted, and so with a scotch brite i removed the rust. my question is, do i polish the metal showing for a better spark and also would it help to put some di-electric grease on the exposed metal to prevent rust and have a longer life hopefully? any thoughts? thanks guys!!!

you can just take the rust off to let it spin. It won't put any more output out if it shiny it working on induction not mechanical contact. What kind of three wheeler is it? I restored a 79 atc 70 last year and the stator was like 15.00 and I just rebuilt a 85 200s that was 9.99. The main problem is the coating on the wire rots off and shorts out the circuit and it will not produce any juice. search google for ricky stator. You could also attempt to rewire it yourself.
