Got an issue:
Are the rear shocks on a 96 VMax XT rebuildable/rechargable? Or do I have to buy new ones?
Buying a new pair will cost around 800 clams, according to the fiche... and that's with a DIY install. The whole sled isn't worth any more than 1500, so that option doesn't make a whopping lot of sense to me.
And as you probably know, with the '96, it's OEM or nothing... no aftermarket shocks available.
If they're rebuildable, what's a decent price-point to expect?
Other than that, does anybody have a set to sell cheap?
Thanks for the help...

The 96 XT shocks are rebuildable. (Comet used to offer replacements)
Maxx Perf does a great job. About $50 for a standard rebuilt $90 to revalve and rebuild the rear one. Well worth the $ to revalve. It helps the ride alot by stopping the bottoming out without having to have the rear spring adjust up so tight. They have serviced mine twice to date.

Thanks for the responses...
Any suggestions for a good shop local to SE Michigan? I can wrench, but Life is just a bit too complicated right now for me to be messing with sled suspensions... work is outta-control, I'm doing a major remod of my house... I just don't have the time. I'd prefer to just drop the whole sled off and let them do it.
Thanks again for your help...

Both rear shocks can be removed without removing the skid. They don't even have any preload on them when you pull the mounting bolts out while the rear of the machine held off the ground by the rear bumper.
As for where to take in to have it worked on in MI ?? I have never taken my machine in to anyone but the back of the Rec Leisure catalog has afew adds of service shops.
