Is there a way of telling if the shock or spring needs adjusting or replacement for the front shock assembly of the suspension?
I have a 98 XTC and with just the weight of the sled the front shock is just about fully closed. Do I need to adjust the preload of that spring? If so what is the easiest way to do it...just big channel lock pliers? or do I have to take it out? Also what is the point of those Maxxperf spring upgrades?
How do I know if the shock is ready to be rebuilt? or replaced? TIA

More than likely youneed to rebuild that shock. I have rebuilt ALL of the shocks on my 97 XTC twice and the center shock 4 times. Yamaha put WAY to soft of a spring on the center skid shock. My advice would be to contact Bruce at Pioneer Performance. He'll ask your weight, riding style, and sled type. Then for a LOT less than new shocks , will custom valve and respring your's for you. Well worth th einvestment.

it sounds like your shocks need to be rebuilt, i added the maxx spring in the center of the rear and the front shocks. they made a big difference if you like to ride big bump and do some ditch banging. they are about $55.00 a piece, i think valving is 40.95 + parts that is what it says in the catalog

Awesome. Thanks Viper Dave. I am going to pull the shock and ship it to Pioneer Performance today. Since the weather forecast is looking like rain for the next week, I should have no down time. I will keep you posted on my progress.
